Strategy to obtain US Amex

Yes. It shows balances and debits in USD. And don’t listen to staff who say that it can’t be used in Oz. It’s a frequent comment I find. The test is for them to scan it. Anyway, it works in Oz, converting to USD.
cool. when fill in the aspire card details it also needs to provide billing address. did you provide the US billing address associated with the aspire card? I put a tax free US state address when filling in the bill address. hope this doesn't create the issue.

Full US billing address for the Aspire (in Express Lane, for me 😀)

When the application was submitted, the outcome was that more information was required.

I was offered the option to call the number of the department needing more information later on, or to be transferred.

I was transferred and just needed to confirm year of birth and the USA mailing address where the card was to be sent to. Then got confirmation of approval!
Hey thizho, just wondering did you use a MyUS address or do you have an actual residential address? I got the same message applying via the Nova route, I'm a bit hesitant to call themto provide "more info"

thanks. i tried a few but still cannot login today.
Sent Starbucks an email and they gave me a case number, called today and explained the situation and they said they would look into why the loading of funds was an issue and then hours later advised my account is good to go. Loaded my account tonight no issues and now have a Starbucks balance.

It was a MyUS address.

The comment above was in relation to my second card, but I got a similar request when I applied via the Nova route for the first card.

They wanted to verbally confirm my address, date of birth, and asked a question regarding if I was in the US Forces. I was then asked if it was ok to do a conference call with my bank to confirm my address. The problem was I don't have a US bank account so I said 'no, I don't have time right now - do you have another option?'

I was given a fax number to fax a bank statement/utility bill confirming my address.

Then had to change my Citibank AU address to Sarasota. Was lucky that a new statement was about to generate 2 days later. When it generated I faxed it through. Followed up by phone the next day and the card was approved. I was kicking myself that I closed a US Citibank account I had the year before. It would have been ideal!

Good luck!

Can you login on app? Or you still didn’t logout yet?

Thanks for the info, yeh applying for a first card for my wife. So basically the main thing they want to confirm is the US address. Damn I have a US bank account with both out names on it, however the address is our AU address! I wonder how hard it would be just to change it to the MyUS address, get a statement, and then change back again.. Was your citi US account a MyUS address as well?

I tried initially applying through GT method for Amex Green charge card. Instant rejection so I called the GT line and the operator identified the US address which I obtained through Postscan mail was a mail forwarding service. So I called again the next day and offered a myus address and was on hold for a few minutes before the operator said that this address was also appearing on their system as a mail forwarding address. I said the second address was provided by a relative as I was travelling currently. I checked both addresses using USPS lookup and they both had an N for Mail forwarding field. Operator didn't seem fazed that they were mail forwarding addresses only that for the application to be approved it needed to be an actual physical residential address.
Just an update regarding this application. I called the GT line again and told the representative that I had an application for an Amex Green in the system but have reconsidered and would like to apply for a different card. The rep advised me to complete a new GT application online and he advised that the existing application shouldn't impact the outcome of a new application using GT.

I applied online using GT, this time for the Hilton Surpass and was approved instantly and card is on it's way. I used the same myus address that appeared to be flagged on my previous attempt. I know others reported having success with postscan mail addresses but the only differences in my online application was the card type and using myus address. I'm not too sure what to conclude except that myus address still works for this method. I'm relieved it worked without the need for manual verification this time. Thanks all for any input and advice given.

Did you sign up for the mail service for MyUS or just the free service?

I wonder how hard it would be just to change it to the MyUS address...
As it turns out its very simple to go on online chat to change addresses as was unable to edit myself, however the incompetence of the agents are something else. They entered my address incompletely, so it is missing the last digit of my suite number! When I went back to chat, they needed to send me a verification sms (only 1 account maintenance every 30 days is allowed without the need for verification) but doesn't work with citibank to textnow numbers.... urgh

@thizho do you reckon AMEX will accept address verification if its missing 1 digit? lol

Oh Citi Bank... you got to feel for them!

Guess it's a gamble if AMEX will accept with last digit missing. Perhaps just add it on before faxing?

For those who had successfully applied (and approved) for an AMEX card via Global Transfer, when applying for 2nd card+, do you guys go thru Global Transfer again or do you try other routes like Nova Credit. Or alternatively apply directly using that account by that time you would get some FICO score?

Are branded cards (i.e. the Hotel Cards) considered separate like AMEX AUS does here for the David Jones card?
