Strategy to obtain US Amex

Just confirming I've received my ITIN. I received the letter from the IRS before I was contacted by SH Studios.

The application was received by the IRS on 6/2 and the notice was issued on 10/3. Definitely a good time to apply for an ITIN.

Although.. I'm feeling a bit silly asking my mailforwarder to scan me a copy of the letter as it actually includes information such as DOB on it. I may look at freezing my credit reports.

Nice! That’s quick. IRS received mine on 9/2, so there might be hope for me. Haha, I was expecting it in May, but might be pleasantly surprised at this rate.

Just received my itin number from SH Studios through fiverr message this morning.
Same timeline and issuing date as well. 6 feb / 10 march 2023.

Taking this opportunity to thank AFF and everyone in this thread.
Saved me the hassle of 'mattress running' in Hilton chains.

Next step is opening cap 1 checking account.

Just out curiosity, does anyone know if AMEX USA will report to all three credit agencies ? (I used my new ITIN to apply for the no annual fee AMEX Everyday card for credit building purposes)

And for MyUS users , does AMEX still leave out the suite no ?
(In my AMEX account, i just typed APT 018505 on the same line as 4283 Express Lane. I hope my AMEX Everyday card will be recorded correctly by MyUS)

Finally, this is my personal experience with using my new ITIN (It was only issued last month) :

If your ITIN is brand new with no credit history, you may find it hard to open a new checking account or get a new credit card successfully. I tried my new ITIN with a few credit builder apps and a couple of credit unions just to test it out, and all failed to recognise my ITIN.

Even when applying for the no fee AMEX Everyday card (I have a 9 month old Aspire card which i applied via GT ; I applied via the normal US application form for this Everyday card ) i was not
approved instantly. I had to call up the US AMEX number and they told me to submit a copy of my ITIN number and passport. Luckily i got approved a few days later.

I also applied for the AMEX checking account and AMEX USA called me up to give them a copy of my ITIN letter and passport. This was on Monday, and up to now, i am still waiting for approval.

Yes, Amex report to all three agencies. New cards can take a few months to show up on your credit file, but they will eventually appear.

Platinum is 150K + $200 statement credit.

I've tried a few links but it said that I'm not eligible to receive that offer, never had the personal gold or platinum, put a lot of spends on my cards too. I think there's limitations for eligibility. Last cards I got from AmEx was a business platinum, gold and hilton in about a 2 months span (last one end of Jan) so that might have been the case. Still spending to meet the gold card threshold.

Has anyone here tried to open a Citi or Wells Fargo online checking account from Australia with their ITIN?

(I am sure that Cap 1 and BoA require you to open an account at a branch if you apply it with an ITIN)

And how do people get around the proof of address / Utility bill requirement ?
