Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm going to Bora Bora in July next year and thinking I could get a US$250 GC that will be refunded on the Hilton surpass card.
Have you already booked? If so, you might be able to email the resort and get them to charge $250 to your account now. It'll then be offset against your bill at the end.

The PH Maldives did that for me earlier this year when I needed to charge something to my Australian card for travel insurance purposes.

You just need to up your manufacture spend :)
Indeed, I have the opposite problem at the moment. Hitting pop-up jail with pretty much every Amex offer. Don't want to run out of SUBs during the best month of the year for MS (ie November).

I booked the Bora Bora with points, but I might be able to prepay for charges I guess or even pay for upgrade.

Why is Nov the best time to SUB? I'm in the middle of building a house so I have so much spend

Just ask for them to charge $250 to your room. You'll end up spending at least that on food/drink at the property, an activity or something else. You don't need to specify what you'll use it towards ahead of time.

Black Friday (and everything that surrounds it) is fertile ground for MS.

Ok I'll call them tomorrow and ask if they can charge $250 for the room and if that works I'll get them to do it again in Jan so we will have $500 credit when we are there in July.

I wish I knew why black friday would be good for MS, but I'm still a credit baby 🍼

As a DP, my Wise USD account is still open, and linked to my Amex accounts. Pretty straightforward to just change AUD to USD in Wise then hit pay in Amex.

They did just change their backend bank, perhaps that’s the hold up with newer customers getting their bank details. It was Evolve and is now Community.

Do you live in Australia or in the US? I didn’t think there was much opportunity for MS here, whereas there’s stuff like buyers group and stuff in the US to support that

Likewise haha.

How do you do this from Australia? Years ago I used to do the Bluebird thing in the US when I was there on a holiday. Buy them at a CVS and deposit to my bank account. And I know about prepaying expenses with gift cards and such -- if I could float the cash. But no way to convert spend into cash that can be used to pay off the credit card.

I am assuming the wise US account is linked to US Amex with a US address ; might seem silly but I am looking at something similar with my Wise US account hence trying to understand how to use the wise account to apply for US Amex Platinum Card.

Yes, my Wise account has my U.S. address on it, mainly used that with other banks, like Chase. I haven’t had to provide Amex with proof of address. I’m sure you could update your Wise account to a U.S. address.

Just realised the Biz Gold flexible credit can be used to buy electronic AirBNB gift cards at staples.com. And very easy to use USD-loaded AirBNB credit anywhere in the world — converts automatically. Well worth looking into a Biz Gold 150K SUB before AF goes up in February.
I guess you tried buying the AirBNB GC and got the $20 credit already?

Hi guys, I need to pay my first statement on my US Green card. I have a HSBC US premier checking account. Is the easiest way to transfer money via revolut to the HSBC account and then select 'make payment' from the Amex US app and add my HSBC bank details and pay that way?

Or is it possible just to send money directly from revolut to pay the AEMX statement?

thanks

Do you have the swift details related to your Amex account that could be used to make the transfer work ?

I can't see any swift details or any account numbers on the amex statement.

To make things a bit more complicated for some reason I cant login to the amex site using my Amex US login details. I do have access to the amex US app on my phone though.

First option .

My spend has turned out higher than expected, so opted for another Biz Plat over the Biz Gold. Will try for a Biz Gold in January before AF goes up, and will report back then. But I've seen plenty of positive reports on using staples.com to purchase gift cards and get the credit.

I don't have the ITIN number just yet, still in process.
Had Amex GT for just about 6 months now, how do you know if you have FICO score?

You don't anymore since they removed the FICO screen on amex.
How does one with an ITIN view their FICO score now? I've had US amex card for almost a year now and tried to Experian's number on 1-866-617-1894 but I can't speak to a real person. When I put all my details online there is always an error. Anyone else was able to solve this issue?

The only way to get your EX or TU reports is to snail mail in a request. You can only get your credit report online with EQ unfortunately. Quirks of working only with an ITIN.
