Strategy to obtain US Amex

An alternative is the Ink Biz Preferred, No FX fees, $95 AF but more spend $8k for 100k SUB
Great card if you can do the spend. For me, $12,000 AUD in 3 months would be impossible and that card has an annual fee and no interest free period. Having 6 months to spend $9000 AUD with a car deposit included is much easier. I hope they offer these terms for the other Ink cards in the future.

How do you get a foreign non-US mailing address added to your profile?
I’m a dual US/Australian citizen. I had the Aussie address in my profile since 2009-ish and did it in person at a branch. On my last visit to the US I went into a branch to show my US passport (renewed last year) and have it added to my profile in case there is ever fraud they can identify me more easily,

I agree the ink preferred does not suits your scenario.

Which Amex card did you use for the above transaction?
Gold, but Green would yield the exact same result. Hilton Aspire would give 7x Hilton points.

Assume green card
Close, Gold, but only because I have a SUB to hit ;). Green would of course yield the same result. I actually prefer the Green for my needs, Gold is great for restaurants and flights, but Green is the king for almost everything travel. So I currently have both. But I digress.

I got my first fraud flag on a new Amex yesterday, ~$100 bill payment via PayPal. Called them up and they verfied me by one of my other Amex cards, unblocked no problem. But now I can't add it back to PayPal, I get a message saying the (Amex) app can't verify me...it still works with Amazon, but looks like I'm going to have to wait for the physical card.

This was my fourth and only two months since last, also first which wasn't an instant approval (they wanted to confirm it was me who'd applied, but after that all well). Oh well, 6 months to spend $3k is ok (Hilton Surpass, the Hilton SUBs are particularly attractive atm imo, and I'm still in PUJ for Bonvoy cards!).
So randomly today it's allowed me to re-add the card to PayPal and the aforementioned bill payment was fine this time.

Not sure if they'd just blocked it until the delivery date (it was due yesterday, as usual Planet Express has "not received it", although we'll see this time as the USPS address in the app mentions the suite number this time, not sure if it has before) but this at least allows me to pay some bills in the meantime. I will try and get the physical card mailed out though ASAP, because I'm assuming the Hilton credit second quarter ends on 30/6? Might be pushing it for that one 😥.

Other than that though, the $200 Hilton credit, I can't actually see a huge benefit in having the physical card, unless I'm missing something? The SUB is good, but all the multipliers seem to be US focused, unlike Aspire, Green and Gold (I do wish the Gold supermarket multiplier was worldwide, and the Surpass 6x petrol for that matter, but we can't have everything, I guess!). Aside from the credit on Surpass, I'd use Aspire to pay for Hilton stays, for 14x instead of 12x.

Would appreciate a sense check in case I'm missing some huge benefit of the Surpass.

Amex didn't enter the suite number but MYUS managed to link the amex package to my account and is charging me a fee for doing so. They are asking to confirm if its my package.

Reading upthread it looks like MYUS no longer offers to send the letters unless they have the legacy mail package. (My package was delivered via USPS).
Do you guys know why I would have received the mail in this case? I don't think I've ever used the mailing package and it seems like the mailing is really random.

Also regarding calling amex for a card replacement overseas, I am coming across alot of difficulties. Tried live chat and they say I have to call. I called the number they gave and it required a SSN which I don't have. I was transferred to the fraud department and after providing a million ID answers they transferred me again, eventually telling me they can't mail it out as it hasn't been the 10 calendar days yet and to call back tomorrow (Its was actually 11 calendar days since approval when I called but whatever).

Anyone know whats the most efficient way to get a new amex card delivered, from the comments upthread it all seems like a really easy and smooth process for existing amex card members with new card apps. But going through 30mins in a call aswering id questions and being transferred around is anything but easy and smooth.

Did I do anything wrong or is there a better number to call that goes directly to the card replacement team? The number I called was +18886540019

I'm tempted to have MYUS deliver the card just to save another phone call to amex...

I got the surpass, but I don't think there's any benefit in it and will eventually downgrade. If you're staying at hilton every quarter, you're better off using the Aspire anyway.

In hindsight I probably should have gone with the aspire. I didn't take into account the night cert, extra travel and hilton resort credit. That will have covered the additional annual fee for the first year.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I just signed up for US Global but not used it yet for any cards and still finding the idea of asking Amex to resend the card oversea overwhelming, worrying. So looking forward to hear everyone experience until I am ready for it.
What happened to those letters with cards that they received for everyone here?

Also question on my mind, I have not yet changed the address on Amex or Cap1 to US Global address. Will it be ok to keep it as my previous address where I applied for the cards and just get USPS to forward all my mail to US Global address?

Am I overthinking/paranoid?

I update the address to US Globalmail without any problems on my AMEX and Cap 1 accounts. ( Amex will send you a code to your email or US mobile number to verify that it is you updating the address. And it is painless)

AMEX may send your card without including your suite no. So, make sure to write down any AMEX mail tracking numbers, in case US Globalmail doesn't know who the package is for when it is delivered ( You can ask for the tracking no via AMEX's live chat)

I also requested an AMEX card to be sent to my Aussie address coz I thought it was lost. Yeah, just wait for over 10 days before calling them up for a replacement. It was a surprisingly painless and straightforward process, and it was sent via DHL Express to Australia. (I did this in April 2023 for an AMEX Everyday card)

Was it the standard number that you called? What did you say/type when the automated voice asked for the SSN?

it's really reassuring reading your reply but If we dont request US Globalmail forward the cards/letters/mails what do they do with them? is it expensive and easy to ask them forward the cards to us in Aus?

Expect letters to MyUS through USPS to be either RTS or trashed. However, occasionally, I have had USPS-delivered letters make it through. Courier-delivered letters and packages are okay. I have a non-legacy account.

You mean AMEX ? If you are referring to AMEX, they will deliver the card to you in Australia for free. If you meant US Globalmail, yeah they can be pretty expensive if you request your card to be sent via DHL or Fedex. The cheapest option with US Globalmail is the USPS airmail option.

Yes, i just call the number at the back of the card (I believe each card ie. Aspire, Gold etc has their own unique phone number) I only have an ITIN, so i just said / type my ITIN no.

An update on my card, finally got an operator that can deliver the card to Aust.
A few tips when calling amex, when the machine asks for SSN or any other query. You can press the # key and they will give you an alternative query.

When requesting for a card to be delivered internationally, make sure to call at least 11 calendar days from card approval, not an hour or minute less. I called this morning, I think it was about 10 calendar days + 21 hrs since card approval and they asked me to call the next day.

Is the chat for resending the card ok? Card name is under P2's name and P2 does not want to call nor know what to do
