Strategy to obtain US Amex

With regards to reaching premier status from HSBC Australia (By transferring 9k in and out for 6 months), does your new status get automatically updated on your account ?
Nowadays you can actually deposit the 9k into a brand new account, call them up and they make you premier instantly. You just need to agree to depositing 9k every month from then on.

Can you please share more info relating to this? Also, do they worth it to apply and loose spots for 5/24 with Chase later on down the track?
I've also been wondering if its worth to get these cards.

The premier has a 35k SUB for $3000 spend, no fee. The Elite 50k for $4000 spend, $395 annual fee.

Most transfer partners transfer at 1.25:1, so effectively you get 28,000 for the premier card. Not that great given you also give up a 5/24 slot.

The $400 on the Elite really makes it not worthwhile imo

FWIW i got the no fee card with the intention to keep it with me for life or as long as possible to help with credit history (length)...besides the initial spend to met the SUB i haven't used the card at all...

Would your FICO drop due to not using the card?

Utilisation has no significant long term effect on your credit score. High utilisation negatively affects your credit score, but only lasts for as long as you have a high utilisation — pay off the balance and its effect goes away.

This is the only reason why I was also considering it - for the credit history boost. Still working on a couple aussie SUBs, might get the HSBC card after completing those.

Update: After 31 days and numerous phone calls to Chase to verify identity while being told my application was subject to an extended review multiple times I received an email today that i've been approved for World of Hyatt with a 15.5k limit. Any recent DP's on Chase expediting card to Aus?
Received my new Chase WOH card by UPS courier today at AUS address 5 days after requesting it to be rushed internationally. Seamless process, no additional identity verification required.

To those of you who are HSBC Premier members, how did you all open your accounts in Australia?
I tried to open it online, but because i already have an Everyday Global account with HSBC, i can only open a Premier account via phone or by visiting a branch.
Would it be better if i go to a branch or do everything via phone ?

If I could do it over phone I would but they made me go to branch before because I had problems with my ID with them that they needed to clarify. If you already have account with them then simply give them a call I guess .

Took the advice, applied free HSBC Card and got rejected.o_O I have no words to explain my situation. Amex rejection for 6 months straight, now even the card nobody wants, still got rejected

My Bonvoy Brilliant Amex annual fee posted 2 weeks ago. Is it a good moment to ask for a retention bonus or these aren't given for co-branded cards?

I had to do the same thing in Perth. HSBC have to be the most unprofessional bank I’ve experienced. Couldn’t book in an appointment for the ID check as it’s a ‘quick check’ and to even get an appointment with them it was 1 month. Went into the city branch, there were only two customer service reps. There was literally a front desk set up with both agents on the other side, and if you were being served there is 0 privacy. Everyone waiting around (on the seats or desks) can hear you discussing your finances and personal information. I was third in line (out of 6) and it took an hour to get to me for a simple ID check. Would highly recommend avoiding visiting a HSBC branch where you can.

Eeeekkk....looks like I will give the call centre a try first. Yeah, I know HSBC's processes can be such a pain.

If you just pay in $9k per month for six consecutive months, you'll just become Premier automatically. This is in Australia, to obtain an Aussie Premier Account for those already holding a Global Everyday Account.

Thank you for replying. Did you do this yourself? Does HSBC send you an email to let you know of your Premier status ?

With the hsbc card and in general if you don’t pay off entire balance by due date (, but make minimum payment )will you be charged interest from date of transaction or from date when payment is due ? And if interest is charged will it be reversed if the transaction is reversed ?
