I haven't had any trouble using it without a VPN, but no harm in using one.

General advice is to wait at least 1 billing cycle so you have a set of statements with your new address if asked for proof of address.

ok - thanks for the heads up - makes sense - especially from an address verification perspective.

I tested out the new address with C1 and didn't get any issues so am chomping at the bit to proceed but I think it's best to have that aspect covered off and ensure the move goes smoothly.

They're annoying to use, especially if Dell flags you as a reseller and cans your orders. I'm currently managing seven of them and that number will prob go higher in the second half of this year. Still, I prefer them to many other credits as they can be turned into cash.

I miss those days when there werexbox gift cards at Dell + 10-20% amex credits + 10-15% cashback. Stacked nicely. Also when we could turn airlines credit into amazon gift cards. Still deciding if P2 should signup for business plat. It's been a while. Is there any new interesting benefit?

Can still stack with Amex credits and cash back, but XBox GCs haven't been seen in a while.

No new benefits. Rumour is the card will get a refresh at the end of the year and Dell credit might go. Open question as to whether replacement will be any better.

Anyone find the amex foreign conversion deceiving?

When a purchase is made, the amount that pending is always at the mid market rate. (Basically same as wise before the fee is charged). But when the purchase gets posted. The amount charged always end up higher than what was actually pending before.

Amex and Chase both add about 1% to the mid market rate for foreign transactions. It's something important to keep in mind when you use US cards overseas. Despite cards being advertised as foreign transaction free, in reality they have a FTF of about 1%. Factor that into your calculations about when it makes sense to use US cards and when it does not.

By contrast, I haven't seen the same thing occur with Citi cards, but I haven't checked recently so not 100% confident on this point.

Applied for a HSBC US Premier account through AU relationship. Super simple, applied online and got an email back from HSBC within 2-3 days. They asked for a recent AU Premier statement and next day account was granted. Is there any benefits to the HSBC US Premier account aside from the address? Also applied for an ITIN through SHStudios on Fiverr...sittng tight for that now

I don't think there are apart from the address itself. Try to get the HSBC US Premier MasterCard if you can through your US RM. As a product, it doesn't rate highly for me but may help you in other areas. I got a decent limit and they didn't ask me any personal questions. YMMV.

FYI - I applied with SHStudio in late Apr, my application was sent to the IRS within 24 hours, and at that time they said:

Your ITIN letter will be mailed by IRS to your address in around 2 months, since it it can take between 8 to 9 weeks for the IRS to process your application and issue your ITIN.

At the 9 week mark I hadn't heard anything and asked SHStudio if there was any update, they responded with:

not yet. yours should arrive in a month since IRS now takes around 11 weeks to process. I will update you once itin issue

Why a 2 week delay by IRS should mean a month delay for me doesn't make a heap of sense, but anyway I'm at 9.5 weeks now and will report back once I've got the ITIN as a firm data point.
