Strategy to obtain US Amex

What amex uses to assess, whether it be your AU credit history or US history. Nobody knows and its all theoretical.
I agree with what you said bar this - you can ring their assessment team and ask, they'll tell you the same thing every time. No global credit history is used after the first successful GT application.
Applying via GT is different to you being assessed via GT
Please explain
The *only* advantage of the GT is the "assessment".

If you really want to make the distinction... "applying" by GT just means opening the website, and having a special version of the form that also takes passport. But you can also just call them and apply with your passport, and not mention the words "GT" at all, and it will be fine.

So it makes completely more sense here to me to refer to a "GT" as using your global credit history to get an American card. Which - you can only do once, and you can confirm this by speaking to the assessment team if you "apply for 2 GTs" like I did.

After paying down close to half the balance I called chase to reinstate my cards . After a lot of questions the cards were reinstated . I can keep using old cards until I activate new cards to be sent .

Any thoughts/data points on banks to avoid wrg MS? Playing around a bit, but only have one checking account atm.

This sounds like a painful story 😅
What’s BG ?

I just use the GT application method and have 4 x Amex cards now. I’m certainly not interested in phoning to talk to any ‘assessment team’.
Oh me either, I'm just saying if you want verification of what I'm saying being factual, and to not take my word for it.

**You used the GT website and were assessed on your US credit history 3 times, and your foreign history once (The first time).

Again don't take my word for it - for the 5th application you can just do it over the phone, no GT website required and you don't have to mention the words "GT" at all. Not that you would, because it would take longer. That's all I'm saying. I wouldn't bother disagreeing with you here but it's important info for first-timers in terms of using your one shot at use of foreign credit history to its maximum benefit (EG: You could have A+ Credit in AU, then apply for a cough card in the US but you could have immediately got a higher-tier card instead based on your AU finances, and you only get one turn at that).

What @Uncharted6264 is trying to say is that after the first GT, the next ones after are assessed through your US credit history, not the AU credit history and no different to calling amex and applying directly with passport. Hence needing to wait 3 to 6 months to build the credit history.

The reality is you can do GT applications probably as many times as you want. (It only helps identifies you and pushes the application through online). What amex uses to assess, whether it be your AU credit history or US history. Nobody knows and its all theoretical.

Datapoints show that need to wait ~3months or more to do 2nd GT, after which there's no longer any waiting periods for 3rd or 4th ones.
This isn't always the case. The fact is that nobody knows how they do it.

For my I applied for 3 cards via GT. 15 Feb 23, 15 Mar 23 and 20 March 23. There is no way that they sued my US credit history to approve me for the 2nd the 3rd card. For my P2, I can't get a 2nd card after 12 months of applying with Amex for multiple cards.

Just apply for an additional GT and see where it goes.

The DPs are all over the place.

Just putting a DP here re US HSBC accounts and address changes...

I updated my address via US HSBC IB to my US address. This has triggered a W-8BEN form being sent to me, which I think is just to ensure that I am not a US resident for tax purposes...

Lately I feel US card should get its own forum so people could post questions and stuff. In a few years, new comers will probably have to read 1000+ pages lol And a lot of it won't be useful for them until like after a year. The replies on this threads alone are more than those ANZ, NAB, Westpac etc forums.

We should have separate threads for Citi, Chase, Cap1 etc and maybe some important topics like ITIN, bank account, phone, promos etc

Great idea

Yes, and there’s conjecture on this thread that isn’t assisting anyone. GT is working for me through on-line applications and I’ve never needed to talk to any ‘assessment teams’ so I plan to just keep doing it that way.

Interesting. This didn't happen to me.

just to add a DP. Did my first GT a few weeks ago (Hilton Surpass). Just tried to submit another through the GT page for Green and got knocked back. In AU I have Plat Charge, Edge and Ultimate QF and have been a member since 2011. I think this firmly lends weight to the view that GT doesn’t help a jot on the 2nd or subsequent applications. Will now wait until ITIN arrives or 3 months (whichever comes quickest)
