Strategy to obtain US Amex

This is from another thread

2FA with Chase and Capital One still works for me only via phone call, not the SMS.

When I pick "send me SMS" and I don't get it, I click "didn't get the code". Then "call me" option shows up. Click on it, you receive an automated call that tells you your code number and you need it enter it to the bank website. They thank you for authenticating yourself and you are in.

Thanks. BTW this is person is talking about the same issue I experienced.

I find it a bit strange that Chase is a bit inconsistent with requesting W-9. I've had CIPs approved immediately whereas some cards will require a W-9. I've always applied for a Chase card whilst on a VPN. Don't remember if I ever applied whilst state side.

I did get immediately approved by C1 for VX whilst state side though.

Hey guys, first time poster but long time lurker!

Spent the last year reading the thread and data points and so far have managed to open up 3 personal cards (1 x HSBC and 2 x AMEX) and 2 business cards (2 x AMEX). Received ITIN about a month ago via Maza.

I'm planning to make a large purchase towards the end of November (~$10k AUD) all in one go and on my Amex Biz Gold charge card, so just wanted to check if there's any need to notify AMEX of this purchase or should I just slowly build up between now and then (end Nov) on small amounts up around ~$1k or so? I just got the Biz Gold card last week (175k MR and $15k spend).

Great work ! Can I ask about the timeframe between each card ?

All depends on what you put on your current cards.

Is there an option to make it into smaller payments over a couple of days?

When you applied did they give you a Pay over Time limit - my Green card (13 month history) slowly increased to 8.8K and my platinum recent card just got a 35K POTL - so I am wondering if the amount is greater than your purchase price and you have a good track record with Amex I would work on idea that would fall inline with what they are willing to allow "credit" to extend as a payment with interest

If you have a thin credit file, you've likely reached the limit of credit and/or new cards that Chase will extend to you. You'll likely need to reduce credit limits & close an Ink if you want to open a new card.
You may also be able to move credit limits .
What is meant by ‘thin credit file ‘ ?

Ok thanks, so if its within that limit, it should work.

Alternatively, I can put it on my other business cc but won't get the full use of the 10k towards the sign up bonus. But should be okay as a back up

Is moving credit limits possible between personal and business cc's? Reducing my personal cc down to say 2k and increasing my business cc with the amount reduced?

$10K AUD isn't a huge amount. You'd have to be on the unluckier side to get a FR with that spend, especially if you pay it off straight away. Still possible, but by no means guaranteed.

DP: I spent about 15k on the personal plat in the first month after GT, I was surprised they let me to be honest and there was no indicator they wouldn't let me do more. The check spend tool came back with reasonable approvals, too.

Good to know! Thanks!

Ok thanks! I’ll also try out the check spend tool a few days before the purchase.
