Strategy to obtain US Amex

Tried to use the Chase CC Pre approval tool - unfortunately it doesn't accept ITIN in the SSN prompt - not sure if I should apply for a card and see how I go or try to improve credit file with another Amex - planning on going to US midyear and will apply in person at branch. When I did the C1 pre approval tool it came up with the Platinum card which is pretty basic as a starter card - makes me think Chase might not be much better

How long credit history and how many cards do you have? Chase's pre-approval tool is useless don't bother.

Sometimes you might be surprised by Chase. Usually they loosen the rules during elevated offers so that would be the time to go. I know they tightened up the Business side of lending but I think consumer banking is still okay.

Re SoFi, was it the $350 banking offer on rakuen you had?

Does that sound decent enough to give Chase a go - CSP or freedom unlimited if not looking like can get a CSP (scrao FU as has a foreign exchange fee I didn't realise)

Rakuten - I think I must have initiated a click In Nov and I ended up getting 25K MR (so assuming 1c per MR is a $250 bonus) - plus SoFi should give me a further $300 for doing a DD of $5K - luckily DOC info page states that Wise codes as a direct deposit - have 45 days to see if that will come through

A data point for FICO score - I just received another personal US AMEX card and noticed in the stack of papers they sent along with the card that my FICO score appears on the document “Your FICO Score and Understanding Your FICO Score”.

First time I’ve seen my FICO score and it also shows the source and the date it was pulled.

Did they tighten issuing of all biz cards or only inks ?

I just got my ITIN from Maza, I first applied back in August and hadn't heard anything since so I emailed them a few days ago. They sent through the ITIN letter which was dated October, so they might not be sending them out automatically.

Surprisingly, the email mentions that since they cancelled the subscription, they want me to pay a $50 administration fee for the ITIN. I've received the ITIN already so I'm just going to ignore that.
Emailed again after seeing this and just got mine too - it was also dated 10th October!!

It has the address of NI Tax and Accouting in CA - will this cause me any problems?

Just seeking clarification. I’m going to transfer my AU amex MR over to my US amex MR account. I see people have done it via the in app AU chat. Do they already have your US amex MR account number etc or do you have to provide that? I presume this is better to do this during business hours to ensure smooth sailing…

I just provided my US card number and they did the rest…

If you're really keen, you can give it a go now otherwise you can wait for an elevated offer. Have you also managed to apply for any other cards with your ITIN?

I believe it was inks only. They're scrutinising people who hold multiple inks.

Usually no as long as you provide another form of address. If they ask, you can let them know it was addressed to your accountant. Amex didn't have a problem. I asked a similar question almost half a year back.

Edit: Has anyone managed to apply for a BoA card with an ITIN? I'm interested because I know BoA will be partnering up with AS for their upcoming premium card...

Ok .thanks . Do you know if they are enquiry sensitive ? I.e if I get declined for my second ink , can I then apply for the United biz or would I have ruined my chance ? Thanks I’m advance .
Apologies for the questions !

Given that you applied in Aug 2024, you could apply for a different ink. If you get denied, I would wait 30 days before applying for anything again.

Thanks . Sorry just one More question : do you know if I am more likely to get approved for a second ink card same as existing ( ink cash ) or a different variant ? Or is there no such rule ?

As @djchuckles mentioned you just give your card number - during the chat there will be a pop up requesting you to put in the card number you want it to go to

I was instantly approved for an Ink Cash mid June. When I applied for the 90k Ink Unlimited on 1 Nov, it went to pending. I immediately called in and they approved it. Ironically I had been sitting in a Chase branch but the rep couldn't do it for me because she had appointments booked all day. I had just walked in. I'd say go for a different one, especially if you are using the same business - sole proprietor.

I have a HSBC Premier Acct in Australia. I want to open a US HSBC checking acct so I have a bank statement with (eventually) an US address.

It states: in the application "you're able to complete a valid tax certificate as part of your application"...what is this? Can someone pls advise as I work and live in Australia. thanks

Also how do you provide the info below as I have none?

A recent HSBC bank statement or another document reflecting your US connection. Some common examples include:

Your US work assignment letter/US work visa

Proof of your enrollment in a US school, college or university

Your mortgage statement/tax bill/purchase agreement/executed sales contract for your US property

They didn’t ask for any of that for me. I just said I wished to invest in USD. Didn’t even need a US addresss. But of course once the account is set up if you want to use it to get other accounts like Amex global transfer you’ll need to get a statement from
hSBC with a US address. I used a family member but some people here use various mail forwarders I believe

Hmmm...to apply for a US premier checking account, there is a $50 monthly fee:

Monthly Maintenance Fee $50
For new accounts opened on or after August 29, 2024, to avoid the monthly maintenance fee, in a
calendar month4 you must maintain::
• Balances of $100,000 in qualifying balances (see qualifying balance section); OR
• Monthly recurring direct deposits2 totaling at least $5,000 from a third party to an
HSBC Premier checking account(s); OR
• Any HSBC U.S. residential mortgage loan serviced by HSBC. Home Equity products, loans
that are in foreclosure or bankruptcy, and loans for which servicing rights have been transferred are not included.
