Maybe some will tell you. . Possible conjecture as no real evidence is there?... Though most will tell you even it you do it that way it’s not assessedas a GT ..

Just applied, and got approved. Thanks so much!Log in. Go to cards in main menu. Apply. Actually that was for card 3. Card 2 I actually used the GT link again. Though most will tell you even it you do it that way it’s not assessedas a GT
If you can’t get passed itin- put passport number followed by two zeros. It’ll fail but tell them when you phone that you don’t have your itin yet
That’s amazing - what did you use? Passport number with two zeros? Or did you go down the GT route again?Just applied, and got approved. Thanks so much!
Used GT again. (My first card was not approved straight away, I had to call them and confirm some information eg. address), This time was approved straight away. That’s amazing - what did you use? Passport number with two zeros? Or did you go down the GT route again?
Which card? And trust you got a sign up bonus?
Just curious why you are giving ITIN to HSBC - are you planning on getting a credit card with them - if not - I am not sure of any advantages - maybe i'm missing somethingI have another question about submitting my ITIN to HSBC.
The agent has forwarded me a W-8BEN form to complete and sign to link my ITIN to my HSBC account. Doing so would confirm several things to them in writing:
1) That I am a non-resident
2) The reason why I have a US mailing address (mail forwarder)
Additionally, since I have my US address set as my permanent residence address in my HSBC account, it would conflict with the information in the form that has my Aussie address.
So I wonder if it's smart to complete and sign this form and return it to HSBC or if this could cause problems down the road?
I did it to get the relationship saving account for the 3.5% interestJust curious why you are giving ITIN to HSBC - are you planning on getting a credit card with them - if not - I am not sure of any advantages - maybe i'm missing something
I just made my mailing address US to give US address on statement as per DP in this thread
Make sense - thanksI did it to get the relationship saving account for the 3.5% interest
Apart from the ease of opening accounts it’s a pretty cr@p bank. I’ve banked with them since they were Midland Bank in UK for over 40 years but won’t be too sad to see them go. They’ve been promising Osko / NPP for about 5 years.Well well well

I wonder how the post HSBC world will work for address confirmation.
I already have a cc with them. Reason to link is so that it links to my credit report correctly. But as you mentioned I wonder if its worth it.Just curious why you are giving ITIN to HSBC - are you planning on getting a credit card with them - if not - I am not sure of any advantages - maybe i'm missing something

If you’ve also got Amex it may not be worth it. In fact it may be worth not as you may find the HSBC one sneaks under the 5/24 radar….I already have a cc with them. Reason to link is so that it links to my credit report correctly. But as you mentioned I wonder if its worth it.

Exactly. I came to that same conclusionIf you’ve also got Amex it may not be worth it. In fact it may be worth not as you may find the HSBC one sneaks under the 5/24 radar….
I just wanted to provide an update on my experience and seek some advice.I’m just in my way back from NY and catching up on everything. I thought my experience might be interesting to some.
I went to get my non driver ID so I could have another crack at applying with C1. Unfort I went on the wrong day though they checked and said my AU passport and HSBC US statement showing my NY address would have worked to get it.
I applied for a Citi checking account in branch and will look to meet the activity criteria to get the $325 bonus (the others were too high a commitment for me and I felt the FX risk might not be covered by the bonus. They would only let me open this account in branch even tho I’m already a Citi customer so good to tick this off.
I also went into a Chase branch and opened a checking account with $300 bonus so I’ll work on getting that when I get home.
The banker did tell me that they don’t accept the NY ID card so not sure if that also means C1 won’t.
I applied for CSP in branch and have the banker that helped me trying to push it through. Will be good to get it this time so the Ink business cards are then on my radar. Please remind me which Ink card is the one to get now?
Hope my experience is helpful.
Thanks for sharing. I haven't tried it but would be keen to try it especially in AU where MC Debit is likely to have a more favorable reception (eg ATO). If using our AU issued AMEX cards, assuming it would include the customary 3% Foreign Transaction Fee? This might work for US issued cards with a rebate promotion though there would then be the currency risk.Anyone tried this? Kasheesh
I wouldn’t do it with the 2% fee but suggest they often have Cashback promos to offset that. Apparently many are using it for Costco and eBay (and I buy a lot of gift cards in Costco!)
I like the ability to spread a large purchase across multiple cards. Could help with SUB spendThanks for sharing.
