Strategy to obtain US Amex

I mean considering it's on apple pay, being charged in a foreign currency/country and on a brand new account, and the card hasn't been activated, I can't fault Chase for being sensitive to it.
I think what you say there makes complete sense. Hopefully I haven't done irreparable damage. I'll give them a call tonight AEST.

I have just been approved for my first chase card - CSP. Rec'd an email saying I can add to my digital wallet. Based on what ive just read its likely best to hold off adding it until i receive the physical card. Would it be ok to use the card details to pay my US tello bill online or is that still too risky and worth avoiding for now until I receive the physical card and activate it?

I have had a bank account open with them for almost 12 months.

I have been having issues having my previous AMEX cards delivered to my friends address which wasnt really an issue as I could ring AMEX and have the card sent to Aus after 10 days. I was also wondering, in the event the chase card doesnt arrive at my friends address would they also send it to Aus or again is this too risky for first card?

You can call the Chase fraud team anytime, they work 24x7. Direct number is 1800 955 9060.
Normally if a transaction declined you call them and say you're travelling, they'll ask you to confirm the declined transaction, then they clear the decline.

If albyd's account is locked, they'll need to speak to the customer protection group, which is different from the run-of-the-mill fraud team. I believe they only work normal-ish US hours.

What's the difference between the Customer Protection Team and the Fraud team in their requirements to unlock? I can completely understand why my maiden activity being on ApplePay, outside the US, etc would likely be an issue. Maybe I'm just minimising it as I'm biased, isn't that what might be required here - just an explanation to the fraud team that it really was me making those charges? How much more stringent will their requirements be compared to the Fraud team? Was thinking of calling the Fraud team back tonight AEST during US business hours and going from there. Should've just waited for my card to arrive - maybe I'm looking at it through Rose coloured glasses as I've had a decent run with other banks (aside from C1)?

Aside from that, I've had pop-ups for some time now when I log into Amex offering me a Blue Business Plus card with 25K MR points (public offer is 15K and I thought it said 75K (though $0 AF is attractive). Shall I take this offer or leave it alone? Amex have also offered me a pre-approved Business Line of Credit for a decent amount. I was thinking of accepting the pre-approved card offer then immediately following that up with the Line of Credit - I don't really need it but it sounds like a "nice to have".

Would there be other implications like difficulties for my business getting approved with Chase for an Ink card down the line assuming I'm not about to get banned from Chase like I have with C1?

Do you already have an Amex Business card?

yep. Have the Platinum Charge card. Was thinking of cancelling it after the first year as I hardly use it and that will allocate additional AF budget to other cards/help my budget generally. I'm thinking of keeping it as a pathway to "easier" revenue tickets paid for with points via Amex Travel though thinking this isn't a great use of points ...

… assuming I'm not about to get banned from Chase like I have with C1?
And you don’t even need to do anything wrong for C1 to give you the flick. There are plenty of reviews on the web about this. I copped the same treatment by the way.

I hope Chase has tolerance for wayward customers - especially those who use their card on ApplePay in AUD outside the US. Fingers crossed I guess ...

I have my CSP and both Inks on Apple Pay and have used them in Aus and a few other countries with no problems. But I do have a long history with Chase going back to 2010-ish. Give it some time.

I think the issue is starting with them and doing that.

Quite frankly I’m amazed how flexible Amex is. I have NEVER used my physical cards (they’re still at family in America) and have only used online and or Apple Pay and 95%+ of my transactions are Australian. The worst they did is ask for a payment on my Amex Gold when that got to about $3k (but I also had $5k outstanding on my Surpass at the time as was holding $5 in my business checking and waiting for the 60 days to count down).

What did C1 ban you for ?
This goes back a while. I had opened a checking account with C1 in about September 2023 and was using my Amex checking account to fund it. I met the minimum deposit qualifying amount (don’t recall the exact amount, maybe $US250 or more), for a C1 account opening bonus of $350, which was credited to the account.

I transferred a small amount in/out of the C1 checking account each month for about six months. I had intended to apply for a CI credit card at the time but had held off.

Anyway, the account closure reason was rather vague, along the lines of the account activity being unusual (?). Anyway, it seems that their fraud algorithm saw something that I was unaware of. C1 doesn’t really explain this in any detail. After quite some time I managed to get a refund of the account balance, including the account bonus of $350. So, that was that.
