Strategy to obtain US Amex

Indeed the extra 15 nights + another 35k FNA from the Marriott Biz card for $125 looks good but it sounds like an ITIN is required and an address in the US where you do business. I know in Aus, being a Doordash or Uber driver on the side counts and you need an ABN for that... probably the same goes for the US where rules are less strict.
The business proof bit is the easy bit - its the lack of ITIN that will stop you i think

The Deal

  • Chase is offering the following bonuses after opening a new business checking account and making qualified total deposits of:
    • $300 after $2,000 in total deposits
    • $500 after $10,000 in deposits
  • Money must be deposited within 30 days of enrollment and remain in account until 60 days after enrollment
  • Offer Expires: 4/17/25
Have you went ahead and applied for the Biz checking account yet? Are there tax implications from getting the bonus cash?

I tried but unfortunately need to do in person for non resident aliens
If have SSN it may be different
Tax implications - not sure - may get a 1099 form I believe if worth more than $600 - some have said it happens with even lower amounts

re the bonus for Checking account, I got mine from Citi and I paid into that account from Revolut. Transferring from my Amex US Checking account didn't qualify for the bonus with Chase, they need it to be an income payment. I've tagged a deposit I've made as "Salary" via revolut. Hopefully that will trigger. Otherwise, I'm all out of ideas - unless there is another way to do it. $US300 is ok. Citi was $US325 but could get up to $US2K if you put heaps of money in. Shame I can't meet those rewquirements. Looks like the currency gain in hindsight would have been worth it for those who have access to that kind of cash to risk the currency movements for a few months. YMMV.

I was wondering has anyone successfully contributed to their minimum spend requirement using a Chase card by paying the ATO a tax bill i.e. does it count towards achieving your minimum spend for bonus points.

I just did a small test payment to ATO and it worked fine however merchant type came up on chase app as Tax payments which has me worried it wont count towards minium spend.

I’ve read/heard that Wise payments for some do trigger the bonus

I have no Chase experience but 4 x Amex I paid ATO and it counted to SUB
Was this through Sniip at 3%?

Certain fees and transactions don't count toward the spending requirement

When making purchases to earn your sign-up bonus, make sure that you understand what fees and transactions don't count toward the spending minimum. Certain fees and costs such as foreign transaction fees, balance transfers, balance transfer fees, annual fees and cash advances might be excluded in what counts as spending to earn the sign-up offer. If you don't take these fees into account when calculating how much more you need to spend, you might think you've met the spending requirements and not receive the bonus.

From Chase site as well. Seems like tax payments on chase credit cards count.

Pretty standard. I always check if I think I’ve met

Has anyone opened a checking account with a non-Amex non-community bank, online with ITIN only ?
- I have seen many of the canadians do TD Bank - looking at website seems you can pick Australia as country and non resident alien and add ITIN but I haven't done applicaiton
- Ally bank - seems to be an online bank that is ITIN friendly

Maybe also discover bank or Santander

If you go through let us know how you went

I've just received my physical CSP. I'm going to try to use it for some retail purchases tomorrow before making a larger purchase. I've also received 2 letters which appeared to have been generated during the application vetting process asking for various things including proof of address (they want Utility Bills not bank statements).

My question is - I have my card. Assuming I can ignore these or will they cancel my card if I don't attend to them within a certain time? Doesn't seem to say on the letters which is why I'm asking if anyone else has received these.

TIA.
