Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Guys I received an email asking me to make a bid to upgrade but when I click the link on the email I get directed to a Qantas page which says "There was an error". Any ideas or suggestions on how to get to the bid page ? Cheers

I have an offer for QF648 PER-MEL on 15/11/17, I have beaucoup points I'm not using so will offer the max 19,600, the question is where in the bid range indicator should I go? Orange starts at $170, yellow at $225, light green at $280. I'm thinking a lie-flat seat is actually worth a fair bit on a coast to coast redeye. What offer range do people normally succeed with for upgrades?

Or (having found it via the FF account page) I could request a classic upgrade for 25,000 points. Which is what I'm going to try given "Classic Upgrade Reward requests using Qantas Points for this flight will be processed and confirmed prior to any Upgrades."

Looks like there's at least 9 seats available, so if you go for the $250 with max points you should be able to snap one up. All depends if someone else outbids!

Another success this week. Minimum 3000 points plus $100 on flex economy QF628 MEL-BNE on Thursday.

If you'd said umpteen points, I would have known immediately what you meant without having to look it up! :)

I was unsuccessful. Once I got to the gate it was no surprise, the premium queue was almost as busy as the pleb queue, and I'm a NB so some of them would have beaten me to it.

QF665 BNE-ADL
Offered bid now upgrade, bid 4000 pts + $200 (above minimum on both but still in the weaker range).
Rejected 12 hours out

Given my luck bidding bare minimum with VA in the past with consistent success, thought I would have a crack but unfortunately not fruitful. Regrettable as I could have certainly added more points but J cabin looked very empty on ExpertFlyer a week out. Never mind

Received upgrade lottery email from QF for both legs QF623/624 BNE-MEL. Offered $200/2000 points on MEL-BNE and was successful. 1A is awaiting!!
Only QF bronze so system seemingly works.

This may be answered already in the preceding 16 pages, so a pointer to a relevant page is perfectly fine.
What's the likelihood of success for those with special meal requests? The meals are requested minimum 24 h in advance but the upgrade bidding is finalised after that cut-off. Would that pose any problems or reluctance on QF's part to accept a bid, or cause the customer to be down-weighted in the bidding?

Opinion, but I doubt it plays any influence in whether they accept a bid or not.

Their standard terms for upgrades are that an upgrade causes risk of not getting requested meal preference. That said, even regular bookers occasionally miss out so I doubt it plays any bearing in which bid is selected - in theory if a person with a special meal offered 10% more on their bid than the next one, I doubt Qantas will turn that down!

Whilst not the bid-now upgrade I do put in standard upgrade requests from time to time using points. I have a special meal but still get upgrades.

Sorry Jessica but I would update a wiki but not google docs. Partly because I refuse to support gmail and my computer is registered to my wife's (outdated) gmail address.

QF 792 PER-DRW 06 Mar O class (Sale fare on b737)
QF initial offer 4000 pts AUD360 each for two passengers. Classic upgrade award is 25000 pts each

Offer 12500 pts and AUD 200 each
Available flight classes at the time of offer - J6 I4

Happy wandering

I don't see the connection with special meals.

Offer rejected about 4 hours before flight - showed as J1 available ...
After check in 2 hours before flight - showed as J2 available ...
Premium line was actually used (and sort of working) - Pax ahead me (old BP row 24) got a beep and plane left with J full.

Happy wandering

In another thread, an article was mentioned;

The observation
“What’s really funny ...
, you look at the list of where people are bidding from, and Australians always surface as some of the most aggressive bidders,” Engle said.

“Australians really love an upgrade or an auction..”

Gamblers much
MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight has some explanation of whatvunderpins likely success
