Suite upgrades

Strictly against the T/Cs. DSUs are for the sole use for the member. If the hotel asks for ID they won't be allowed to check into the suite or charged RACK for the suite and the DSU returned.

The work around is for you to check them in.

Call Hyatt and ask them to add one of them as second guest to the reservation. They will then be able to checkin on your behalf while your are 'delayed' or arriving later. Other half rejoins you from lobby lounge after you've collected room keys.

I've done this for many family and friends for years now. I get the points and maintain Diamond easily, they get Diamond perks. Combine this with significant discounts using corporate rates and it's even sweeter.

I realize this is against the T&Cs, but this is a risk that I'm more than willing to take which has delivered fantastic returns. Same approach adopted to all the other major brands as well works just the same.

Except the OP's parents are two guests, adding them makes a total of three adults. Some properties may even require an additional room purchase, such as in Europe where most hotels don't allow three guests.

Based on Isochronous' language, I understood he/she would not be present at all, and that this was a gesture for his parents - 2 adults.

I understand that. What am I saying is that when the parents arrive as the additional guests the check in agent will begin to question what is going on and where the OP is.

Hmm. I never thought of it like that before. A friend of mine who is SPG Platinum once booked a room under his account but with my name as second person on the booking, so I could enjoy the Platinum benefits. I was able to check-in fine and pay for everything on my card, no questions asked.

From my experience no problem doing that with Hilton, SPG, Raddison and Rydges. I've done that many times for my parents and never had any issues anywhere in the world.
Hyatt may be more strict about that, I don't have enough experience with them.

Used 2 DSU for my Nov stay at Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi and Andaz Wall Street, upgraded to Park Suite and Andaz Suite. Agent who applied this was friendly and efficient. Need to plan my other 2 DSU before February 29.

Has anyone noticed in their Suite Upgrade Awards that the Expiration has moved from 29th Feb to 3rd Apr? I just noticed it now in my Account Detail and thought it strange given that Diamond status and DSU renewal are always end of Feb.

Mine are still showing Feb 29.

Mine show to Feb. 29. Interesting thing is I have used 3 of my DSUs but the account says I have only used 1. Wonder if I could end up using more than my allotted 4 DSUs if I book before deadline!

Also noticed I got an upgrade to the Grand Executive Suite in Macau (which is 2 rungs above the base suite). Pretty happy about that.

This could mean you won't be getting another 4 DSUs come 1 March.... It is very odd and abnormal.

Sometimes they get deducted post stay.

From my reading of Gold Member's posts, they have qualified for Hyatt Diamond through stays, not through the status match so I'd say that's unlikely.

Have you done this for Hyatt in Singapore? Might try for my parents later this year...

Not specifically for that property, but the approach is still the same. You are calling the local Australian Hyatt desk to add second guest. The reservation will be updated with a second Rate entry at $0 value but with the new guest name which the property can see.

Be careful with parents and elderly folk that aren't confident with what we're doing and don't know what to say on the spot if pushed at the time. It might invite some more unwanted attention. I usually customise a walk through of the process, what-ifs and scenarios with different people according to their comfort/travel experience etc.

This is bizarre. I have used all mine up, but my expiration date is now showing at May 1. I'm sure it was Feb 29 a few weeks ago. Weird?
