Currently ensconced in Emirates lounge in FRA at 20:30 FRA time with departure slated 22:20 tonight 30th. I had SQ R FRA-SIN / F SIN-MEL booked dep tomorrow 31th but cancelled yesterday when saw availability of EK through QF web site.

Will be interesting - will report back - thanks to RooFlyer for alerting me to this possibility - cost an arm and a leg QF pts / fees wise but how else do you burn QF pts?

Ok CE what are the warm sodas in your suite used for?
I thought the small Suite was way too Hollywood and the seat was too narrow for leg comfort. I was happy to be on a short journey running SYD-AKL-SYD. The AKL lounge was very nice.
Well that fixed my curiosity with Emirates so I am back with SQ Suites.

Been there and done that.....it's almost 3.30am and we were at the Dockers match last night.
I do hope to catch up in MEL with the footy.

rob just a wee clarification - I assume your SIN-MEL flt is on a 777 or is 380 back showing availability for that period?

Suites on 380 book into R/F class for revenue tix - First Class on 777s book into F class for revenue tix - but both rdpts for Suites (generically known as R) and First Class (F) all book into O class and this is what will show on your electronic tix - that can be a little confusing. So most commonly used terms for rdpt bookings is R for Suites and F for first.

But that aside you have selected the best seats in the house for accompanied travel - do enjoy and please report back.

Too excited :):):). Yeah, you are correct of course. F on the 777, although wasn't there a rumour a while ago that the 380 might come back to Melbourne? Whatever, I'm a silly duffa!

Did you waitlist for the FRA-SIN at the time of booking? ie. not available at saver level.. Looking forward to your comparison!

My comparison? So far EK nothing short of disgraceful - cove, infinity - if you guys ever hear me talking EK again you have my explicit instructions to 'cough slap' me into tomorrow!

How could it be that bad? Let's start with 1hr from landing until I got into 1st Class Lounge in DXB courtesy of a 20min wait on board before tarmac deplane then 10 min bus ride to terminal then through security then 10 min walk to lounge to be told 'Oh no Sir you are departing from Gate A4 - you need to take train to A terminal' - WTF - nobody tells you this - no advice from anybody - just a disgrace.

On board? Try having to ask for pyjamas - try having to ask for slippers - try warm Veuve pre departure and advise 'Oh we serve Dom often take-off' - now admittedly this was 777 and only 5:50 flying time with a 22:20 dep and I had no intention of anything other than sleep but no terminal arrival on such an important route as FRA-DXB? Give me a break! FTR - SQ always advise which Terminal they are arriving into and ALL F pax clearly accommodated if they don't know exactly the way to TPR.

But look on the bright side - can only get better huh? I am sitting in First Class Lounge typing this sipping on Moët - yep you read right Moët - no VCLGD or PH Rare here in EK 1st Class Lounge - but I am looking forward to the on board bar and shower!

You are not a silly duffs at all mate and your enthusiasm totally understood - no doubt 380 will make occasional returns to MEL dependant on fleet utilisation going forward but when that will be who knows.

Not 100% sure what you are asking Kangol - I had confirmed rdpt on SQ R/F which iAd booked 11mths ago and cancelled 26hrs pre departure which still only incurs USD30 cancellation fee.

EK flts booked through QF web site 2 days prior to travel.

Go on make me laugh ...how much is "an arm and a leg" worth these days when paying with QF points  ?

Oh, I meant was there saver award space available at time of booking? ie confirmed at the time (as opposed to waitlist). I'm looking at doing the same, but it appears that FRA-SIN is a busy route due to it being the second part of JFK-FRA-SIN... and hence award space is hard to find at almost one year out.

Leave next week on SQ R & F into MUC and returning Ek F from CDG into HKG then CX into CNS. the EK was a last minute change now I'm a bit worried Crusier Elite ... Hope your flight was good ! Looking forward to a bit of bling lol

We had a solid experience flying EK F a few weeks back which I am in the middle of doing a TR about but I am sure you will be fine. There are little things that they forget about - but if you get a good crew, you will get treated very well. Our two flights JFK-DXB, DXB-BKK had crew members who could easily have been plucked from Singapore Airlines (Singapore, Malaysian, Singaporean Indian) - we also had a top notch South African steward who was super duper good, and an excellent bar tender from Poland. Then there is the shower at 40,000 feet and don't forget to experience the heated bathroom floor :) Also if you are flying in/out with a B777 there might be a good chance you'll experience the parking away from the terminal and needing to catch the bus to/from the terminal.

Booked some more SQ Suites to London last night. Have not tried Easter in London before.
I think this Saver thread eggs me on.

If you have to, go R Class is the way Cove!

Will be doing EY 1st Aprtments to the RWC in 2 weeks, so not interested in SQ on the way over

Need to try the opposition for a change

No need for us to change any time soon infiniti. I am happy with the SQ Suites as the crew have been first class. Will keep overnight stays in Singapore running to avoid the 1am Perth flight. Hello Crowne Plaza in Changi.
I looked at going out of Sydney but the layover time was too long.
So we go J out of Perth and get a night at Crowne, breakfast in TPR and then Hello London. Our driver is waiting so off we go.
This bit may change when Cross City opens as the fast train will be quicker to get to Canary Wharf.

Well have arrived home this morn at 05:10 - now I must admit the EK 380 experience was far superior to the 777 experience - but having said that it will not be repeated - I fully understand people will think I am just 'blinkered' to SQ - maybe I am - but once you have done the shower thing once well you have done it - the bar - yeah ok - but way down the back and only serving Moet there - crew offered to fetch me a Dom from up front but I just wouldn't do that.

As for the 'Suites' themselves - way too much bling and lacking in zing IMHO - seat stretches out to a bed and they place a mattress on top - it is not dead set horizontal and the bed overall less than comfortable - I'll take the SQ fold down beds any day of the week. cove I see what you mean about the warm soft drinks - who in their right mind would do that. Food was Ok - I guess many will like the concept of anything anytime - again this doesn't excite me and I much prefer the structured formality of SQ complete lunch / dinner service - yes I know you could easily do this off the EK menu but kinda building yourself a task that could / should be all done for you - but as I said others will disagree.

Crew were really good - definitely not as attentive as SQ in any way - often glass empty and you need to wait to catch their eye - 7 pax in First - 4 dedicated crew for F cabin over and above the 2 shower attendants. Had one crew member cleared all my table away after I had soup and salad - I asked why? Oh I thought you finished Sir - still shaking my head in disbelief - yes they have Dom - white and pink - but missed the Krug badly - French red OK - they also offered 2009 St Henri I think.

I wanted to try EK F having heard all the hype - certainly won't go out of my way to try again - as an overall experience IMHO it trails SQ by a fair degree.

192K QF pts + €495.97 compared to SQ 112K pts + €352.58 - just no comparison value wise.

Forgot to mention the disgraceful WiFi on both SQ ands EK. SQ MEL-SIN on 24th wasn't all that terrible - very slow but I put up with it - I am sure that connection was with T-Mobile. SIN-ZRH was with OnAir - USD28.00 IIRC - and ir was disgracefully slow - taking 5++ minutes to load a page - brought it to attention of IFS who stated he would seek to have charges refunded. I sent odd email to OnAir and they did indeed agree to refund.

EK yesterday provider was OnAir - $1 for 100MB - again was so disgracefully slow that crew had to reboot / reset / reboot continually - I just gave up in the end as it was again unusable. Again crew are copping all the flack for this and wasting so much time on it.

So 2 questions:
1. Has anybody ever really truly and seriously connected to WiFi on any airline and found the speed acceptable?
2. If it is so difficult - why do airlines continue to offer a service that just does not work?

I did take a screen shot yesterday of the $1 service on EK and will be sending that off to SQ to stick a rocket up them - mind you $1 for a 100MB that takes a month to reach the limit is about what it is worth IMHO.
