Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Now that is something that my 2 sons should consider doing. Thanks for posting that contribution change.
That could save them paying their highest tax rate up to the $25,000 limit. I think they would be under that figure by several thousand.

Hmmm maybe I need to do some back reading on this threat. Lots of good information.

I would suggest don't go too far back as that may confuse you, given that the major changes take effect this financial year. They are the things you really need to be clear on.

I am not looking at my super fund portfolio today. Tomorrow. Next year.......

all good fun :) i’ve Stopped telling Mr FM how much we are down, as he gets depressed. Could all be back up next week, or the start of something bigger.

One thing is for sure .- any stock reporting softness in their half year figures over the next couple of weeks is going to be punished badly.

How does the largest ever fall in the DJIA grab ya?
Couldn't care less. That's what happens when people invest their life savings for others to manipulate and destroy. This whole global economy concept is flawed at best.

I checked my Super balance with ANZ and it's still the same as last week. When are the losses going to be applied?

Depends on when they value the unit prices, so the valuation you are looking at is probably yesterdays price. After 11am tomorrow you should see a change.

Other will see this as a buying opportunity for specific stocks that are (still) under-valued regardless of what the broad market is doing.

You must have all your super in cash.
And the AUD takes the full brunt again. It now buys USD0.785 and THB24.85 which is much worse than last week.

I don't get it.

So you do care now.

Well there are usually a number of factors, in this case they were:

- The strong start to 2018 after the record-setting performances of 2017 has raised concerns markets were overdue for a correction.
- deepening investor anxiety over rising bond yields and disappointing quarterly earnings.
- concern about inflation
- a U.S. report showing job growth above expectations provided the catalyst for the sell-off, stoking speculation the Federal Reserve will need to raise its key interest rate faster than expected to counter inflation. Higher bond yields make it more expensive for companies to borrow and make bonds more attractive to investors than stocks.

The USD strengthened against the AUS and THB, so those curencies fall.

And of course it represents a change in value, NOT a loss as many believe, a loss is when you crystallize the fall in value.
it will all go back up (eventually)
