Surprise! You've turned Gold!

When crazydave has a look at this thread (i'm tipping not this afternoon as he might be a little busy!), he'll note the number of people who are prepared to give DJ a go, but dont want to lose the (perceived or otherwise) benefits of their status / qp membership on qf.

Another round of status matching might get quite a number across.

I suppose it wouldn't be that disadvantageous for them to keep it, as was said earlier, for non-flyers it's just the price of a few bagtags.

It is disadvantageous to those of us who ARE already gold FF. I'm seriously dumping them if the lounges get flooded and my benefits disappear.

That's what I was thinking when reading the twitter feeds, the common consensus was 'it's a surprise, but I'm going to give them a go now.'

As much as this is very very very likely to be a huge mistake, it could very well be genius.

Relax, it's an error. They aren't exactly going to allow every single passenger into the lounges

So the question is, how do you forsee DJ digging themselves out of this hole?

I really don't have status to match, but need to get my sister to an interview next month and prior to this afternoon it would have definitely been QF or JQ. If Virgin actually gives me Gold, I'll probably try them out.

It might be my only flight too, so they wont lose out that much.

Hey, i've got a flight at 7am monday morning. I'm going to struggle to get INTO The lounge. My guess is that there will be a hundred people there arguing and trying to get in.

That is going to be a mass rejection email.

I think I have flown Virgin 4 times in 4 years, I am planning a flight in about 3 weeks so if they were to give me a free lounge invite this might sway my choice of flight for at least one sector anyway.

@samh004: that's my thinking too. I've been throwing everything at QF this year to try and scrape into SG status by the end of April when my counter resets. If DJ want to give it away to me, I could probably be lured.

Then again, like 777 says, if everyone has it, it quickly becomes far from worthwhile.

2 options really, suck it up and honour it or retract it. Either way they are going to have egg on their face!

It seems everyone has QP these days anyway, so it doesn't really matter. Might make the QP a little more attractive!

Also, does Virgin have lounge access in the US yet? That could be pretty useful if you flew Delta over there.

Correction, everyone but me has QP :P

Then again, I don't seem to travel at peak business times, so the time's I've been in QP (guested in by WP-dad :P) it's not been a zoo.

No way they are going to honour it...
Perhaps a single use pass... but even that would swamp the lounges....

My guess is an apologetic retraction message, I do not thing Velocity rewards has any liability here... with (as far as I can tell) all Velocity members affected any kind of compensation (and for what?) would be hopelessly expensive...

Hey if anyone here is from QF: NOW is an excellent time to offer me a status match!

My guess is that there will be a hundred people there arguing and trying to get in.
The Priority line might be a little longer than usual lol

Even with a reaction email, this is going to take a little bit of time to get back to normal!

Haven't flown DJ in years, though very recently signed up for Velocity. Was hoping it was a comp. Just to add to the consensus, my first thought was for what flights I'd start to redirect over to DJ in place of QF/OW... obviously those of us here are in the minority compared with twitter let's say, but certainly looks like they could give comping another look after this mess is sorted out.

Mostly looking forward to hearing from people flying tonight or tomorrow about the fall out.

Disgruntled Virgin employee finishing up on a Friday?

Good way to go out with a bang!
