Best twitter post:

BeauGiles: RT @kollektor: I tried to fly Virgin once. They said I was too drunk (true) and threw me off the flight. Now I'm "Gold"? Unlikely. << LOL

This is genuinely hilarious. Admittedly, I did get my hopes up for a while planning on switching a few flights over to DJ.

+1 for another round of status matching

We've flown UA, QF, Jetstar, VA and DJ to the US and NZ several times and occasionally Virginblue to Qld. I was struggling to nearly get silver, and whammo - the anniversary came around and I went back to red. So this Gold is nice.

But what does it really mean? Apologies in advance for being ignorant.

Do I use the business lane for boarding Vaustralia to the US even on an economy fare?
Is it only useful for Virginblue flights, or do you get lounge access if flying Vaustralia, Pacificblue to NZ or to Samoa, Fiji etc as well.
Does VA have a lounge at LAX or do I get access to the Delta or whatever lounge at LAX?
Is there a lounge at Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington?
Is there a lounge in San Francisco if I fly Virgin America to/from LA in main cabin select: atm I have to fly first class to get free bags ... or fly Southwest on 16 legs over 24 months to get a free flight.
What's in the lounge? Drinks, nibbles, showers, lockers for your carry on?

I have to say this will probably sway me to not fly QF, AirNZ, UA, or Junkstar.

I was "very excited" to become a gold member ......

But imagine this, everyone catching DJ flight all cramp into the Lounge! There will be no food and booze left!

Um, read the rest of the thread before you get too excited.

Well it seems like a journo has gotten hold of it:

bengrubb: If you received the Virgin Blue email can you email bgrubb [at] itnews.com.au ? - Let me know if you are upset that it was an "error"

Lol well this would help out their financial situation now and budgets! Especially if they keep on running out of food and booze!

And now i'll start the conspiracy's. Think that this could just be a viral promotion to tell more people what Gold status offers customers?!

lol the website for velocity rewards is in total meltdown, it must have gone out to every member. how ridiculous

Rellies who joined velocity but never flew DJ are gold too. (They fly Tiger once or twice a year). I hope they don't yank the gold off me coz I'm looking at booking the Sept 2010 trip.

Oh, I was qouted 6,900 points each way and $195 and $230 cash for Melb-NZ next Sept. But when I went to pay (with amex: is there an Amex50 promo on?), the puter wanted 194,000 points. I didn't go ahead with booking. Is there a computer glitch or is it me???

And why hasn't NoNews.com.au picked up on this story yet?

I guarantee if it was QF, it would already be breaking news with the headlines.. "QANTAS SYSTEMS FAIL etc etc"...

My four-year-old daughter (who has not flown for around a year!) got the same email too!!!

(I've flown several times in the last year and got nothing???)

Something odd going on here!

But normal people won't fly often enough to be gold or silver. Or they'll go junkstar: the DJ trip to NZ was supposed to be 13,800 points and $425 cash, but Jester was qouting $450'ish in total (and QF $675). Why 'waste' points if you've got no hope of retaining the gold?

And how many VA flights a year to LA or NZ must I make to retain the gold?

And it's dead:

VirginBlue
Friday the 13th strikes! Some members have been advised of an upgrade that they are ineligible for. We regret any inconvenience caused.

Well Velocity website is running smoothly now, and got corrective notice up stating:

Now lets just wait and see the fall out and possible legal cases! :p
