Sussing Sudan

Seems strange that an AU insurer would ignore "official" au travel advisories.
Leads to the devaluation of the advisories in the general community.

As always the devil will be in the detail... or in this case the PDS.

FWIW Mexico has plenty of yellow shading on the ST map.... which seems to be the colour for just about every country.

I've loved them all. I have the 5 Stans lined up next year with Exodus (and @RooFlyer is joining me, like he did in Iran).

Certainly am. And there will be an added frisson for a couple of days and nights when we visit and stay in the nice little town of Termez, in far southern Uzbekistan. Readers can find it on the Smarttraveller map, below, sited scenically on the Amu Darya River, which separates it from, um ... Afghanistan. There's a border crossing just out of town .... I wonder if Afghanistan offers Visa on Arrival :) - then it will be the 6 Stans tour ...

Interesting. What level of Smart Traveller advice does TI become null and void? Looking at ST half the country is shaded "do not travel" & the other half is shaded "reconsider your need to travel"

edit - added map

The red bit is pretty close to your itinerary map.

OK, my edit is to add an image of the poms' map I had as a link before:

I guess it depends on the level of the work experience kid that gets to do these jobs...:D

The next couple of weeks or so will tell ;).

Woo-hoo! Grab a Kalashnikov and bring it on, man :D:p.

I just checked. Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are totally green :)

LOL the whole of France is yellow along with places like Belgium, Thailand, etc .... I suppose for the normal sorry reason these days! All countries are only one incident away from a heighten level... and some countries are always at that heighten level.... very predictable IMHO.

Exactly why I take no notice of the crayon-scribbling output from the trigger-warned and snowflake occupants of the creche at DFAT (or whatever it is called this week...):mad::D:p.

Hope you have a happy and safe travelling adventure ... TI coverage is always #1 concern ... YMMV.

If JohnM doesn't mind a continuing diversion before he gets to TR proper ... Is there difficulty in getting TI? I usually have a Covermore policy and coverage is 'global' +/- USA.

After a lot of reading , we have a new annual policy underwritten by Allianz.

In terms of visiting questionable places this is what it says :

Your claim arises because you did not follow advice in the mass media or any government or other official body's warning and you did not
take appropriate action to avoid or minimise any potential claim underyour policy (including delay of travel to the country or part of a country referred to in the warning).

Based on that , I would always ask for an email covering a prospective Itinerary.
Perhaps @john m has already done this….

I would guess this trip report will feature deserts, so no water or rain forests.

Enjoy the wines on Emirates.

Have a good trip,

camera won't fog up

Indeed , but it's great coal face stuff like @JohnM's camera woes that assist buying decisions.
I was charging up my now ancient FZ200 and wondering about a replacement.
DPreview were raving about the latest Sony and I thought .. naaah… the old camera has been hot cold and everything in between and has never missed a beat.

I don't buy annual policies because I often go away for trips longer than 6 weeks within a year, which all annual policies I've looked at limit an individual trip to.

I'm going with a British company that follows British FCO advice. Exodus are not cowboys.

Whether it means an Australian insurance company could use that as an out, I do not know - and frankly, I'm not going to drive myself nuts worrying about in advance. If the insurance company I take out insurance with covers a specified place, then I take it as read that they know what they are doing.

In my case TID would not provide cover for Sudan; HBF (ie. CGU) (and others) would, so that's what I purchased.

See above about TID vs HBF (ie. CGU).

For next year's rambles (;)), I'm using Columbus Direct who also operate in the way of Covermore - ie. Global +/- LOTFAP. Nice and simple.

You go Covermore and we'll then compare who pays up the most for removal of an AK47 clip-full of 7.62 mm slugs :D:p.
