Ok - apologies for the repost to those who follow either me or QF on Facebook - but where has the door to men's loos gone at the SYD DOM J lounge. Obviously not individual stalls - but the main door to the loos?

Sold of for firewood to keep the birds aloft?

It looks to be a permanent change too.

this is a positive change IMHO - I hate touching toilet doors after I have washed my hands....

Well I had a call from the SYD lounges manager last night about this very topic

He explained it was due to customer comments regarding the touching of door handles after having washed their hands. It appears now that in new shopping centres toilets are being built without doors but with privacy walls for this very reason. He noted my comment re signage and they will put up and extra sign.

Subsequently had a general chat about things that would make the travel experience better - I complained about the pizzas going away to which he responded that they were probably around too long and they had too many complaints about them being repeated. Also they are looking to refresh the menu more frequently now.

I am generally pretty happy with the lounge experience - always get a seat, good service - actually cited munitalP's favourite barman.

We moved onto to more general topics about the travel experience and pointed him at the priority boarding thread - citing the fact that the lack of consistent application is bringing that down.

Overall a real win for social media. It also confirms that I am a known person to QF given they were able to call my mobile just based on my username here ;) here's hoping it extends to the beep at boarding ;)

Good stuff.

Pizza on the menu last night. Maybe I should push my favourite staff member in SYD J lounge more - Domenico. He seems to mainly serve the island dining. But must do other things.

High end Asian establishments get it right in the bathroom fit-out stakes-

Auto doors
Auto water taps
Auto paper hand towels
Auto urinal/dunny flush

The less things you have to touch the better.

A lot of places in Europe, especially Germany, have full automatic as well. I've even found this in seedy nightclubs.

This might be a bit 'off topic', but I've heard at some 'high end' hotels in India, you even don't have to wipe your own bottom !!

There are ummm !! 'boys' to do it for you, at a very modest price.

I heard this from an associate who travelled to old Bombay some years ago ... is this still the case ??

I mention this, purely as a response to the issue of 'not touching' toilet doors etc. ( of course ... )

GORDO

You mean this type of toilet? The one with the plastic out is when I found out what wand cleaning was for iGregsy. I thought it was going to be more cough related w wand an analogy for cough.

I was in India a fair amount last year and stayed in a few 'high end' hotels, and they all had toilet attendants who would turn the washbasin taps on & off, pass you the handtowel and open the door for you, but that was as far as it went...

And here I thought someone just added a toilet door with their iMac to slowly recreate a Qantas lounge in their house... there goes my conspiracy theory.

Well I haven't been there but even in the most desperate places I have never heard of that!

Was tipping expected for these attendants and if so how much?

Spotted the doorless entry this morning, and I couldn't agree more. After seeing how many people don't wash their hands, the less things I touch there the better!

Is it time for a toilet fetish thread.
When I travelled in China we would go to the bathroom first.....no soap equals no handshakes!

Hmm. Haven't seen this door removal in the PER DOM J lounge. They avoided the problem by not having a J lounge in the first place.

Who says QF don't think ahead :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Whilst in Japan I experienced one of these - wasn't sure which button to press so tried them all out ;)
