SYD J International Lounge [not good]

Re: SYD J Lounge

I don't mean to be too critical... but look at it his way... YOU turned up with guests.... and given YOUR entitlement to do so, presumably many others had done so too.....so..... arrive in a group..and complain its packed? Hmmm....

There were 4 of us; one WP and one SG all flying QF so I see that as reasonable.

Interesting thread. I will try SYD QF International J early next year on my flight to HKG (CX138). I wonder if at that time, there would be fewer people in the lounge. I always hate crowded lounges where I cannot find a place to sit down.

I've been into crowded lounges many times before so I am certainly not precious about it...but when several groups of PAX are standing around waiting for someone to motion for their cabin bag then dive for the chair things are getting ridiculous (combined with the annoying PA announcement stating the obvious about the crowded lounge and don't waste spare seats!)

I never visit QF in HKG because CX Pier F is 50 times better than QF.

Agreed! So HKG CX Pier is 50 times better than HKG QF J/F which is 50 times better than SYD QF J

Re: SYD J Lounge

Have been thru Syd J lounge many times and always busy but IMHO certain times of the day are more chaotic than others.. Delays can make the lounges like holding pens and just creates chaos for all...

Re: SYD J Lounge

How many oneworld airlines at SYD and only one set of (QF) lounges? QF, BA, CX, JL, AA, LA, MH. That's 7 airlines, am I missing anyone? Seems crazy there are no other oneworld lounges.

QR as well.

Re: SYD J Lounge

Pax on China Eastern and Jetstar flights as well, I believe. Not OW but add to the crowding!

Re: SYD J Lounge

Those *O airlines that had lounges at SYD closed them in the years after the current QF lounges opened (2007).

Plus FJ presumably?

Well there is the problem then.

QF are taking the cash from all these partner airlines and supplying a chicken pen for all PAX in return.

Re: SYD J Lounge

Yep, that's a lot of airlines for one airline lounge... CX is open to having its own SYD lounge, and definitely thinking of it, but of course it has to make business sense for them. That said, if it was like a SYD version of The Pier J in HKG (albeit without all the flagship touches such as Teahouse and Daybeds) – so basically like LHR – I'd like to think many savvy frequent flyers outside the CX brigade would decamp from the QF lounge to the CX one, earning CX a little extra coin at the door.

Re: SYD J Lounge

Probably something to do with the fact that the staff in SIN/HK cost 20% of what they do in Australia

On public holidays, Sundays and even on Saturdays the cost difference with Asia is even more pronounced. Triple time for public holidays. No wonder so many Australian businesses try to outsource to Asia as much as they can.

I got to the airport after the EK lounge closed this morning so I just spent an hour in the SYD QF J lounge.

Yes, it's not great. But for me it was perfectly acceptable this morning. The hot breakfast buffet was reasonable, the service was good and there was freshly squeezed juice & barista-made coffee available. And I did manage to get a seat. Yes, the lounge could do with some improvements. But I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making out.

The branding is what is wrong, it is not a J Lounge it is a QP.

The Premium lounge is a J lounge and the F Lounge is an F lounge
Bugs me...

Can't seem to find the opening hours for the EK lounge online. Do you happen to know what they are?

I have access to either the QF or EK J lounges, Amex or Priority Pass. QF and Amex have been done before. Anyone care to comment on the Priority Pass lounge? Or is the best still the EK lounge? Will be there prior to catching QF11 (so morning). I do like a cooked breakfast. I presume the EK breaky will be on the Halal side.

There was a sign outside the door but I didn't take a photo of it. From memory, it's open in the morning prior to the 3 Emirates morning departures, then re-opens mid-afternoon. I think it was closed between around 9.30am and 4pm.

You might want to also take into account that airlines like CX also grant lounge access to their MP Silver members (OWR). So all of them are also in the SYD J lounge along with their MP Gold, MP Diamond & CX J pax.

You also need to account for those with QP passes as well from credit cards and QF Silver members.

Might not be a huge contribution but does add up.

I agree while it does need a revamp and positive enhancement but making it happen will be hard. When the BNE J lounge closed for refurb there was the Plaza Premium lounge and vouchers for the rest. Is there an equivalent space that could handle that kind of volume in the interim? Even if its split up a bit between several lounges. Were talking including the 8 OW airlines plus anyone else that gets access to the SYD J lounge. Would there be any issues (perception or otherwise) having OW pax temporarily visit star alliance or skyteam lounges. I know many overseas lounges where this is the case but for a OW home base would that look bad.

Is there even space to expand anywhere in Sydney Airport? Doesnt have to be the J lounge. You could move the F lounge and convert the existing F to a J lounge. You would still want them to be close by each other though.

i found this when I was trying to find the same answer - the hours are top left and seem to match what Mattg thought. Fairly comprehensive review as well.

SYD: Sydney Emirates Lounge - Business Class Lounge

This thread make me think again about using my 2 Qantas pass recently received from ANZ Black to enter SYD J lounge . Based in SYD my initial planning to save those pass for our next international J trip with Qantas . Have been to HKG Qantas lounge and it great . Any other option of good use to those 2 pass , my understand is you can only get access to Qantas Club domestic
