Normally flying into Syd or Mel will not allow you to use the FLounge for arrivals access. There appears, however, to be a way to do that. JQ run international listed flights between the Syd and Mel international terminals. SO by arriving at Syd international and transiting to Mel via a JQ international flight or arriving at Mel international and transiting to Syd via a JQ international flight should allow you to get, in effect, arrivals access at the FLounge at your first arrival airport as you will have an onward international BP.

Mel/Syd international flights:

- Mon JQ3 14:15/15:40
- Wed JQ36 09:00/10:25
- Fri JQ30 14:15/15:40
- Sat JQ36 09:00/10:25

Syd/Mel international flights:

- Tue JQ29 10:45/12:15
- Tue JQ35 15:00/16:30
- Fri JQ35 15:00/16:30
- Sat JQ35 15:00/16:30

Syd/Adl international flights:

- Tue QF 81 09:30/11:15

Any more?

In doing this will you need to clear customs at the first international arrival point and re-check-in for the JQ international flight (bummer) or can you just follow the transit walkway to the international boarding area and the FLounge escalator to the nice and hot showers (yes please)?

As this would add hours to the journey I fail to see how this would be of much benefit.

If arriving in Melbourne you can just walk to the J lounge in the dom terminal and have a shower. In Sydney it is harder but you could still access the j lounge in the Dom terminal if a shower is that important.

Granted getting an arrivals shower in the J Lounge is not an issue.

I live in Adl and as my partner works full time and late at that, getting home before say 20:00 is of no real benefit to me. But as I do like to try doing things in different ways, I though as the door appears open to accessing the FLounge on arrivals, I would give it a shot. The only unknown is would I have to clear customs at the first international arrival point or can I "transit" to the international boarding area at the arrival international terminal?

You would transit SYD and clear customs at your final destination \ final international port. So If you flew AKL-SYD-MEL transiting in SYD you'd clear customs in MEL. Though if for some reason you flew AKL-SYD-(using say JQ35)-MEL- CBR you'd still clear customs in MEL.

Thanks. That is what my research also suggested. Will now arrange my next trip back from Lax to get some good Syd FLounge, "On OZ arrival" pampering.:D

Maybe we need to charge AFF and LawLass for using our 44J & K seats for the JQ 35 in flight Lounge meeting space? I mean we were denied our exit row extra leg room.

Your route home will be LAX-SYD-MEL-ADL? This seems more like "transit" access to me.

This is a lot of effort for that salt & pepper squid.

It'd almost be more time/cost efficient to skip the hop to MEL, shower in the business lounge in SYD, then duck over to Rockpool for a feed before an onward flight to ADL.

If you get the correct day wouldn't QF81 be a better option than JQ35?

Not being negative just realistic.

Is flying Adl/Syd then Syd/Mel and finally Mel/Adl for the recent FLounge run any more realistic? Which was actually, for me, pancakes in the Adl QP lounge, Salt and Pepper Squid for lunch in the Syd FLounge, drinks in the DJ Mel lounge and finally coffee in the Mel J Lounge. Not bad. 4 different lounges in one day. Never done that before.

So my next challenge is to get Syd or Mel on arrivals FLounge access. Realistic? Not even close, for sure. But it seems doable and so it will happen.

Can you make a booking that includes the JQi domestic sectors on a single itinerary? (I had a try and couldn't see it) If you can, a transit visit to the Flounge should be possible. Else you'd have to go though customs at the first Australian airport.

I've been on Australian terminating flights that transit Australian international airports and on them international lounge access was possible (but short!).

Thanks for that. Looks doable. Updated the list in the first message.

Anyone have more flights to be added?

Horses for courses, air travel is not always about getting from point a to point b in the fastest manner, sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination! I just wish QF had more domestic legs of their international flights, sadly I suspect even what we have will go come Aug 24, with the exception of QF8, and the BNE F lounge is hardly worth the visit.

I see you can however get LAX-SYD-ADL QF12, QF81 on one itin. So there's a 3 hour transit in the SYD Flounge!

I'll probably be arriving FJ911 at 11:40, so JQ35 looks to be the one to use to achieve arrivals Syd FLounge access as it departs 15:00. It is also available 3 days a week.

you can get a QF codeshare (267 from memory) on the one itinerary, so you would transit in Sydney.

I know you can do this as I looked at Fiji earlier this year and that same option came up on the QF website.

It's not about being negative, just very hard. As the departures and arrivals halls are on separate levels it makes it tricky, unlike say Singapore.

Why the mention of one itinerary? Surly the international Transfer desk in Syd or Mel will issue the other BP (say for JQ35) from the confirmed flight booking printout?

Because I don't know if your luggage would get checked through.. the FJ booking site will also book it as QF267 as well.. And I don't know if they could..

I've not tried it so I can't comment if you'd get a JQ pass from the transfer desk..

Why tricky? Just get the arrivals international Transfer desk to issue the JQ35 BP and take the lift one floor up. Ok I have not done it YET but why would it be tricky as there would be others doing transit via the Mel or Syd international terminal?
