I MAY have quoted this out of context (there's a bunch of stuff in the FAA index), but it appears that plastic or glass containers would be under the same rule; although plastic would allow slightly more time for service, as they would just be tossed in the bin after collection.

I seem to remember that the plastic cups on my recent flights were collected during taxi, not before pushback, but I might be mistaken.

correct there is no specific rule against glass (it's 'any' item) and a couple of airlines have apparently started using glasses again for pre departure beverages. the 'cabin ready' signal to the flight-deck for pushback is not supposed to be issued until all items have been secured. (although I do recall a northwest flight a few years ago where the 'cabin ready' was relayed to the flight deck after pushback, but before taxi commenced... however the rule does say 'any surface movement')

the thinking with plastic vs glass is as you say, that they can be easily collected, stacked and then tossed rather than having to return with a few glasses each time, stow them in containers, and then inside a cart.

the FAA regulations don't apply to foreign carriers, so you can continue drinking during taxi :)

Hi RooFlyer, what time of year did you do this trip. We are in the process of booking a bear tour on 2nd July 2018. Just trying to decide which tour to do, and if the salmon run will be happening when we are there. Trying to decide on the beach landing and bear viewing or brooks falls.

Not to take over the thread ... I just did a bear viewing trip out of Wrangel, in late July. The salmon run depending on which species it is will most likley be running in early July. You get to AnAn Wildlife Sanctuary via a small boat from the town of Wrangell. You can get so close from the hide over the river that you can almost touch the bears whilst they are fishing. Also, will see the bear cubs.

The Sanctuary has a limit on daily visitors, so I phoned them first to see if I could get in as this visit was the reason I booked the AK trip. That, and a helicopter ride to the top of Mendenhall Glacier to go dog sledding. The trip was wonderful. I can look up the phone numbers etc if anyone would like them.

Thanks get me outta here. We will be flying into ANC and driving down to Homer, and doing the 26 glacier tour on the way. Wrangel is a little far from us. Thanks for the information though, it looks amazing.

I did it in late July. The salmon by that time were on the decline (they ran early that year), so I didn't see 'peak bears; but quite enough. Many more than shown in that, possibly my first Trip Report! Given my time again, I would have paid the money and stayed at Brookes Lodge overnight - apparently plenty of bears through the lodge area at night!
