Food is also ordered via QR and they bring it to your table, drinks you collect yourself.

There's my big bird waiting to go - 777-300ER

I have never been to Japan before, always going via Singapore to UK or BKK. Kinda wish I could stay a few days, I really like how it's so organized, feels calm and makes me relaxed.
I'll definitely be back when they open to tourists.
Not eating anything in the lounge as saving myself for the onboard catering.
Stay tuned for more excitement in the next episode of "Scoobs Trip To the UK on Japan Airlines Which Is Really Really Awesome" 🤣

Bloody awesome !!

Booked to go Syd-Hnd return in JL J at Easter. Really hope Japan opens up to tourists by then but don't have high hopes. :(
I've got flights booked for SYD-HND return in Easter too. Looking forward to trying JL J, although yeah I don't have high hopes for the borders being open by then either :(

A little bit unfortunate that the 787-9 that JAL has scheduled for then has the reverse herringbone seats instead of the Apex Suites detailed in this review, but I'm sure it'll still be good.

I'm sure the herringbone seat will be fine to, the service from the crew and the food really makes the experience.

I personally don't think Japan will be open to tourists by Easter, they are really careful over there it seems with opening up to the world.

You could just go and spend your entire holiday in the Haneda terminal 3 departures area 🤣 There's food, drink and comfy bench seats. What more could you want!

Loved this TR. I also love JAL and their service. they go above and beyond. We love it when we can get F awards for JAL.We have 2 flying LHR-HND in Mid April. Was hoping to spend a month in Japan but likely it will just be a transit. To SIN if they are open. If not back home.
My favourite moment on a plane was being tucked into bed by an FA flying LAX-NRT in F.

This reminds me of this YouTube Flight Reviewer who posted a review of ANA First + Business class:

He flies London to Frankfurt.... via Tokyo Haneda. According to his replies in the comments it took him an hour to check-in, as the itinerary was just too whack.

Such is the value of Trip Reports. :)
Totally agree.

Is there or if not, there probably should be a thread or threads on transiting the usual suspect hub airports in these current times. I’m particularly interested in SIN. ex-Oz seems to be ok but returning is not so great - at the moment.

Yes, not looking that good for tourists entering Japan. There’s just no political pressure to open up.

Awesome trip report,...have certainly missed trip reports!
Am booked on JL for SYD-HND-JFK and LAX-HND-SYD to bookend a One World J Award in Sept/Oct, with wife and 2 kids....looking forward to the JL flights even more now...thanks for the detail, and all the pics. Have a great rest of trip

Thanks @cjd600 , I am enjoying being back in London again. Will be flying back on JAL on business in a few weeks and will try and report on that too.
I bet you can't wait for your trip later in the year, it should be awesome.

Thanks for the awesome detailed trip report! I was lucky enough to enjoy JAL J class quite a few years back and even with the older seats back then thoroughly enjoyed it. And that is from someone who's allergic to seafood so I'm pretty much stuck with the Western menu.

Still- one of the best airlines out there so thinking to book them again for a trip to Europe later in the year. Of course I am hoping that things are back to more normal by then but sleeping on an airport bench for a few hours does not sound like the worst thing tbh. But then, who knows, the Sigma mutation or something like that might just be around the corner...
