Sydney - Gold Coast Return suggestions via QFF for Jan 13

Such a waste blowing so many points on one of the most competitive routes in Australia. Look out for sales - you should be paying less than $600 for all 4. MEL-OOL at least is on sale on VA every single week.

Kids dont need to travel Business Class. If they haven't earnt the points, why should they use them? I agree with others, use them for a J Asia redemption for you and your partner where you can experience proper Business rather than a 1 hour rush job with kids who dont even know what Business Class is.

If blowing 128k points, would flying into BNE be any more beneficial as Princess Fiona suggested earlier in the thread?

Planning to hire a car once there anyway, drive back into Surfers is around a hour I take.

I go to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast every Jan school holidays and take the cheapest option to either BNE or OOL as its easy to travel from there in a hire car. I would definitely look for cheap fares and save those points.

OK folks, will wait for some sale fares.

The current Gold Coast sale with QF is around ~$800 for 4 hence was exploring the points option.

How do you price beat with Jetstar?

Look at the flights (I use Webjet), pick a tiger flight at a good price thats within an hour of Jetstars, ring them on the price beat line and ask them to beat it, for instance on those dates, Tiger and JQ both have an 11AM departure with Tiger at $59 outbound, coming home tiger have a 11.55AM at $59 that matches the JQ 11.50 departure.

So thats $118 round trip less 10%!

Wow

That's helpful but there is no Tiger Outbound at 11AM for $59, its at 6:30 and 15:35

Fares for reasonable times are coming to $575.80 after price match

Are those reasonable, if so I will book.

Also, these fares do not earn QFF points do they?

That's a decent price for the school hols this far out. I don't think you'll get anything much cheaper by waiting. The cheapest JQ fares (Starter)don't earn points or SC. You need to purchase a Starter Plus $17 add-on per fare. I've never flown JQ on a price-beat so don't know if this option is available.

According to others this is not possible to earn SC/points with a JQ price beat. I agree that the $575.80 price for 4 people is about as good as it will get for that time of year, the other possible danger of waiting is that one of the 4 airlines competing on this route TT/JQ/QF or VA could withdraw from SYD-OOL in which case we all know what direction air fares would go then.

As an aside - it will be interesting to see if they all persist with SYD-OOL......

The buggers won't price match fares including luggage!

Nevertheless, all done. The total for the 4 fares was still under $600.

Thank you everyone for responding and helping us book. Great forum with lots of helpful people.

Will call on your expertise to help me blow the 350k+ QF points in the near future :)

btw, I can confirm that no SC or FF points for price match fares. The agent was not even wanting to add the FF numbers to the booking for the same but once i insisted, she did so.

She tried to sell car hire too claiming great rates from Avis & Budget because of relationship with Jetstar.

Took the rates down, just in case, if at all it helps anyone

XR6 was $275.87, i45 $289.45 & SV6 $320.64

Thanks again

I believe you can purchase your luggage for a price matched fare on jetstar.com after 'ticketing'

I would be looking at SYD-BNE as well as SYD-OOL on QF and VA for the cheapest cash fare (I booked for Jan school hols SYD-OOL $48 one way on the QF sale ages ago)
I wouldn't be spending that many QFF points on a SYD-OOL airfare either but to fair that was an introductory airfare unlikely to be seen again any time soon.

I booked 9 of those airfares (3 on QF and 6 on VA) and the prices have increased back to what VA was charging before QF announced the route and QF's airfare is $99 o/w. I suspect if one had to book during the school holidays now that price is going to be much higher.
