I think this is a new low for me on Sydney taxi driver. I just came back from an overseas flight for work and took a taxi home, only to be confronted with:

1. When I walked up to the taxi from the airport rank, he was too busy talking on his phone and did not assist me with my luggage (that's the least of the issues)
2. The meter was facing him and not the passenger, so I have no idea what was charged. His taxi license was not displated clearly which I believe is a requirement of any taxi.
3. At the end of the trip he showed me the meter and it was clearing showing T3 maxi rate. I was the only passenger, and the car is just your run of the mill wagon without the ability to carry more than 4 passenger.
4. After an argument with the driver he first insisted that I pay the full fare, when I questioned him he said he just pressed the start bottom and dont know anything about Fare 3, so I guess he has ripped so every passenger he got by charging them the Maxi rate.
5. I stood my ground and got the fare down to $75, which is what I normally pay.
6. He then said no cabcharge and uses a Zeller terminal to process the payment on my cc, adding a 5% fee on top.

Overall a painful process and i'll only get on a tax with a proper cabcharge meter going forward. I am surprised the airport allows this kind of behavior.

I am going to write to the point to point commissioner about this.

What company? I have had bad experience with GM and them not using cabcharge properly

Here's your company: Cabsby – Taxi Service

Found out by reverse searching the phone number on the bumper.

If taxis want to be recognised as competitive and fair against ride sharing services, they have to do better than that (and resorting to gangland-style warfare tactics against rideshare drivers).

Haven't stepped into a NSW cab for a loooooooooooong time, but isn't there a sticker or something which outlines all of the prevailing rates and charges?

I think your beef is with the cab company (and hitherto the taxi commissioner) and not the airport. Don't know if the airport will or can have any power to reject either individual taxis or whole companies of taxis.

Anywhere in the country for that matter.
You run out of choices in some regional towns, and even somewhere like Cairns, the rideshares can be pretty thin at times (or surging like crazy).

Also, not every company has jumped onto having a rideshare corporate account or being comfortable in using and/or reimbursing for rideshares (hence the huge wads of Cabcharge vouchers).

Though even with uber/DiDi you may still get the cabbie
...or an ex-cabbie that hasn't shed their c(r)abbie ways (like a wolf in sheep's clothing).

Someone once told me that taxi is a form of public transport and comes with its insurance, whether as uber doesn't have the same coverage

whether as uber doesn't have the same coverage
Not correct.

All uber cars (just like any car) has compulsory third party insurance plus all rides are subject to an additional per km CTP charge plus Uber itself carries an Australian $20M (secondary) contingent insurance. Rideshare cars are registered as such under the State car registration and are required to have a pink slip each year with no 5year exemption for new cars.

Rideshares are also regulated by Point to Point legislation and the relevant Agency. So never book a ride with a random person advertising for fares unless they have a BSP providernumber. You are protected (nsurance wise if the driver has a BSP provider no

That's because the company doing the booking can only book through the Uber app potentially knowing where a client's private address. Cab charge much easier.

How do you book 2 Uber for 2 clients at the same time?
Qantas gives out QR code vouchers for example for ubers. I imagine you can do the same for corporate accounts.
