I think this is a new low for me on Sydney taxi driver. I just came back from an overseas flight for work and took a taxi home, only to be confronted with:
1. When I walked up to the taxi from the airport rank, he was too busy talking on his phone and did not assist me with my luggage (that's the least of the issues)
2. The meter was facing him and not the passenger, so I have no idea what was charged. His taxi license was not displated clearly which I believe is a requirement of any taxi.
3. At the end of the trip he showed me the meter and it was clearing showing T3 maxi rate. I was the only passenger, and the car is just your run of the mill wagon without the ability to carry more than 4 passenger.
4. After an argument with the driver he first insisted that I pay the full fare, when I questioned him he said he just pressed the start bottom and dont know anything about Fare 3, so I guess he has ripped so every passenger he got by charging them the Maxi rate.
5. I stood my ground and got the fare down to $75, which is what I normally pay.
6. He then said no cabcharge and uses a Zeller terminal to process the payment on my cc, adding a 5% fee on top.
Overall a painful process and i'll only get on a tax with a proper cabcharge meter going forward. I am surprised the airport allows this kind of behavior.
I am going to write to the point to point commissioner about this.
