Sydney to LAX - Which carrier for Economy

My MIL had a good experience with UA a few weeks back. Lots of empty Y seats and FAs encouraging people to move to empty rows. She had a lie-flat 3

Not that Iā€™d plan to do Y for that length of time but if absolutely forced too Iā€™d be trying to find a Y product that only has rows with 2 seats so maybe HA and their A330.
I can cop being a little cramped but I canā€™t cop sitting next to a stranger for that length of time so anything that has 3 seats in the row would be out

Donā€™t forget the original poster has three people travelling together.

It occurred to me that the QF old A380 upstairs-Y wouldnā€™t suit ā€˜cos itā€™s 2-4-2 ā€¦ you want a block of 3. Whereas most people covet that 2!

Ah yes, correct you are.

Sorry I meant 2 adults and an infant (on lap)

if all airlines offered the same price, Delta hands down. Unfortunately they donā€™t šŸ˜„
Apart from an American friend who has a billionty statuses with someone like United, this is the first time Iā€™ve heard someone recommending a US airline in Y!!

Flew Delta last year as they were the cheapest then. The upgrade to Comfort+ was $40 but the cabin was packed while economy was half empty. First time trying them and was happy I did!

u may find this of interest

Take Air New Zealandā€™s move to bring flat beds to long-haul economy (even if for a price). From September, you can book its Skynest sleep pods for a four-hour snooze block from around $NZ400-$600 ($370-$560).

You can also reserve Air New Zealandā€™s Skycouch, which transforms a row of seats into a sofa,

In terms of food, Qatar Airways seems to be the current darling of the airline ranking community, and reviewers are praising its catering and customer service.

although from the comic one could always tipple on coughtails while laying down in the overhead lockers!

Hey guys, is it better to fly with United airline economy or with American Airlines economy from Los Angelos to Sydney? cheers

I'd consider United to SFO as an alternative.
Why is that? I have heard LAX isnt great but never experienced it myself.. I dont have the option to go to san fran though as iam flying in to LA for 3 nights next week and dont have the time to travel from SF to LA.

My last 3 trans-pacific flights were flying DL (most recent Dec '23) - the A350 is my favourite to fly on, a quiet and comfy experience, particularly if you're able to take 41A - it's a window seat with nobody in front so you basically get your own entrance/exit with a great view of the wing. Extremely good value at around $120 considering UA charge double. Food was actually quite tasty and the service is (probably) the best as far as US-based carriers go.
Will be trying out the QF A380, AA 777 and UA 787 + 777 (from SFO) in Y later this year and in 2025, but I think I know I'd much rather be on a Delta A350, just wished they had bigger presence here :)

I have just returned from a MEL/LAX/MEL in Y and found United to be surprisingly good!
I prepared myself for the worst but they were certainly streaks ahead of when I last flew with them a few times in the late 90's

Food was good and plentiful , drinks flowed and the Cabin Crew came through every hour or 2 with water.

IFE good with a wide range of options.

Biggest surprise that both crews were efficient, friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there.

My mother-in-law was similarly complimentary about UA, particularly as there were spare seats at back so she had a whole row. She did panic when she read on the info sheet in seatback that all F&B needed to be ordered and paid for via app but this was presumably info for domestic flights as she was well catered for.
