At MEL at the moment (evening of Friday 19/07), and there seems to be a systems outage preventing access to all check in and boarding operations. Flights are being called one by one for manually processed boarding, with associated delays.

Edit: glad I'm in the lounge!

My bad for leaving the lounge early.
Plane now over an hour late and no sign of boarding

I'm supposed to be on 891 to SYD. I'm getting the feeling I may miss curfew now.

My flight just cancelled
What's the best hotel to ask for
I have a business class ticket

If I was you I'd leave the airport, go find a 4-5 star hotel, keep all your receipts and send Virgin the bill tomorrow.

Works for me, I'd much rather be reimbursed later on and avoid the airport chaos.

Holiday Inn and Park Royal hotels at the airport would be the most convenient.

Parkroyal is the old airport Hilton and the best at the airport, if you have to head into town I know Hilton on the Park is full tonight so you could try Hilton South Wharf as its straight down the freeway for a quick getaway

They've called for remaining manual check ins for 891, I figured I'd go to the gate (have had enough to drink for now!), but no sign of movement now.

I feel for your predicament, deka2.

System now back up but 883 still cancelled
In the lounge waiting for a call
No Alcohol being served

VA694 from Perth has landed but is expecting to take 60 minutes to have a suitable bay available.

Interesting that there's flights in the air to SYD to arrive after curfew... how'd they manage that?

Yeah , VA891 has only left MEL about 10 mins ago , with an ETA 23.43....go figure ???

Easy - it costs them.

Dunno... that depends on the authorities actually taking action against VA to fine them that money. No action, no fine, no problem!

In circumstances like this, they may just get away with it.

Anyway... gotta wait until they actually say the curfew was broken.

That is true they actually have to break the curfew first, however JB has stated that exceptions aren't the norm, fines are.

Since when do they not take action? SYD is usually vicious.. :) 546 just landed, 885 just got clearance and 891 is a short while away, was going to listen to ATC to hear if they got the curfew warning or not.

VA891 just told to land and vacate runway asap as another VA flight waiting to take off before 2330
