Robdjnr#1 has been in the LOTFAP for 3 months now. The BFF is heading over to visit next week, and Jnr. has put in a request to bring those everyday items the we enjoy here, but that you just can't get over there.

Sure, there are similiar things........but they're just not the same.

Requested so far:- Tim Tams (regular & double coated), Caramelo Koalas, Clinkers, Strawberries & Creams (Allens), Shapes (BBQ, Cheddar & Savoury) and, "for the love of God, spray deodorant, PLEASE".

We thought the spray deodorant situation was really weird over there. 99% of deodorants on the shelf were "icky" sticks or rollon.

Did anyone else miss, or couldn't find some everyday item that we use here, but not readily available in the "Land of Plenty"?

My sister moved to the USA about 4yrs ago, and off the top of my head, here are some of her gripes:

1) Cheese - they don' thave quality cheese, just that melted orange gooey stuff
2) Anything without sugar in it...because everything over there has sugar in it.
3) Strepsils - bizzare, but shes convinced the strepsils over there aren't as good as the ones we have here (and a Canadian friend of hers is in the same boat)
4) Bread that isn't sweet, in fact anything that we find at a local bakery - especially lamingtons!

We have to keep posting her ration packets to stop her going mad

Oooh, I forgot Crispy M&M's. The blue packet is pretzel flavour over there. No luck at the M&M stores either.

Vegemite!

Any Cadbury chocolate; theirs is made by Hershey.

My bag last trip across was full of Tim Tams and Lamingtons...

I still can't get used to their bread either, there is something not quite right about it, so if I had room, I'd be packing a loaf or two of decent bread from a bakery.

On the flip side there is a store in VIC that sells US foods that you can't get here - sadly I can't get Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion potato chips which are possibly my favourite [-]chips[/-] crisps.

Half decent beer on tap?
Surely you jest. There are some wonderful brews on draught in the US. Far more than the rancid lager muck that comes out of our taps most of the time.

FWIW - a friend of a friend runs an Australian product store in San Jose and everything you've mentioned is available there. No names as I'm not advertising, but as an aside I googled "Australian Food in the US" and came up with pages of responses.

It's pretty expensive (compared to home of course). But when you're desperate ......

I totally agree! The bacon there is just overfried!!
It has to be over fried, turned to a crisp, because they have extra special bugs in the piggies there that you would not like. actually you really REALLY wouldn't like.

PS: bacon comes from piggies - just in case you were wondering

L & P drink, opps, thats only world famous in NZ

If I wasn't totally put off their bacon, I am now!

Piggies - lol.

The pretzel ones are the VERY BEST... as are the dark chocolate and raspberry ones... swoon.

i also have seen Tim Tams on the shelves of some grocery stores in LA, San Francisco, Phoenix, Vegas... must be something to do with Australian tourists!

Ooh Roo
