Another chip flavour I love that you usually can't find OS is cheese and onion.[/QUOTE said:
Speaking of chip flavours, have you seen the weird varieties available in the UK?. I've seen Baked Bean flavour, Lamb and Mint Sauce, Prawn coughtail, even one called a Builders Breakfast.... I wonder if the chips ( crisps) are made with a crease to resemble the Butt crack ?!

You can buy Codeine based OTC pain medication (Nurofen Plus) on the US so not sure why they would baulk at you bringing it in!

You can't get Codeine without a prescription in the US and you certainly won't find anything by the name of Nurofen or Nurofen Plus.

I think most of the things mentioned in this thread I relate to but I have certainly come to adapt over time... There is no substitute for things like a bakery, fish and chip shop, fresh seafood.. But these things don't tend to travel well :p

For those of you missing Tim Tam's, Cadbury, Arnotts biscuits, Cadbury drinking chocolate etc I would recommend Cost Plus World Market (a chain store throughout the US). They have all of that there plus more. They have a great selection of Asian and Indian foods too.

Good cheeses can be found at most supermarkets with a deli, lamb can also be found but it is expensive.

There are a lot of stereotypes about bad American food and while I agree there are a LOT of awful products on the shelves (in Aus too!) there is also a wide range of great food here and its affordable.

Hear Hear blueflameco...

Admittedly stereotypical US food has a poor reputation... but scratching below the surface uncovers a remarkable and mind boggling range of products Aussie can only dream about. And US food produce is unbelievably well priced. Generally US$50 in a US grocery store goes a helluva lot further than AU$50 in a similar environment in AUS.

Ooh Roo

Sometimes money is not everything. Having lived in the US for two and a half years I can attest for a good variety of foods, some I miss today, but I did miss decent Tea, English Heinz Baked Beans, decent bacon......and oh yes intelligent conversation!!!!!
