Testing Double zip compression bags.

Nope, Navy still does that.

One thing about ironing uniforms in those day was the introduction of steam irons - they were a sailors new best friend! No more ironing uniforms with a damp hanky to get the creases to stay, or singeing or burning the serge in the dress uniforms. Ironing was the easy part of washing and ironing though. Washing our clothes used to be done in the showers, using a galvanised rubbish bin and a thing called a pogo stick. This was made of a copper cone about the same size as a funnel you would use to transfer petrol, the cone had many half inch holes drilled in it, and was welded to a short piece of pipe with a handle across the top like a shovel. You loaded in your clothes, water and some washing powder in the bin, and proceeded to jump the pogo stick up and down for about 10 minutes to get them clean. All this time you would be dodging those who wanted to do their ablutions in the limited space in the shower compartment. The next problem was getting the clothes dry. It was so much fun that it almost makes me want to re-enlist!!

And did you get the cubes? (making an effort to get back on topic :))

Apologies LTL, but as cubes are the topic, can I say that once we had finished the washing, drying and ironing of our rig, we had a cube to store them in, a locker 2’x2’x2’ in the old language, to stow 3 sets of summer and winter uniforms, boots, shoes and any personal items you could squeeze in. Was easy after some practice, much like packing a suitcase, but you had to live out of that for two years or more.

Thanks, and back to the real topic now....

Yeppers I got more and they are now in the suitcase with all the travel crud.
:)
The ones I had previously from Big W coped really well with the squishing.
As a side note on cubes I do like that I don't have a case full of clothes and bits. I now have cubes which hopefully will.help if my case decides to deploy by itself :)

Got home today and I do see some benefits of the double compression zipper packing cell - I was already a packing cell fan and will consider using these for Iceland plus a couple of the vacuum bags we also have for the more down/fluffy stuff.

@Denali have you weighed the bags when they are empty? The indiegogo site has some recipients suggesting they arent as light weight as promised. For reference the Indiegogo campcamp (i assume Kickstarter was the same) lists this as the weight for the size:

Mine finally arrived tonight, was pretty much what I expected them to be. Might get to test them out next week, hoping they don't have the quality issues some are reporting and rip upon first time use.

So I went to Big W and there was quite a choice ...I bought one of each as I couldnt decide.
Hope they work.

@Denali There's another variant appearing on Kickstarter from a mob in Melbourne. But sadly looks like they've barely tested their product other than using it on a 3month trip themselves:

Compression Packing Cubes

They state: Pro-tip: always roll your clothes to fit the most into your bag!

I’ve been rolling clothes for years as there are less creases.

I uhmm'ed and Errr'ed about backing this project, but in the end didn't for two reasons:
a) I already have many packing cubes/compression bag options
b) They just didn't seem experienced enough to be able to pull of a decent supply etc.

This is sort of on topic but has anyone used the cheap Kmart and Target packing cubes. I bought some off Catch of the Day a few years ago and they were rubbish and the zips just didn't last.

I have bought target USA ones. Absolutely rubbish and dearer than the Big W ones
I have had a very tightly compressed blanket in one since Dec and happened to pull it out on the weekend still nice and tight

Similar with my Big W travel compression plastic bag. Very impressed with them.

oh this means I can start packing for Alaska if they keep their compression!

I put a puffy jacket in one for Scotland so it went SYD-SCOTLAND return and then about 4mts later, I finally took it out of the plastic compression bag. Was really impressed

Sadly those Big W are not in stock and haven't been for some time

Online both are $10 - I dont know why one image is 10 times the size of the other - online they were both the same size !!
