Thai Airways business class vs. Air Asia business class- is there a clear winner?

Yeah I want in on that. I think I'm going to go the gamble and gross my fingers we end up on the 787. Thanks everyone.

A pic of the new business class. So is in 2-2-2 config but definitely full flat beds. Pity not the staggered used in the A380's and 777's. But good that Thai is now one of only 2 airlines out of Perth offering flat beds in to Asia if I am correct? Thai and Cathay?

why the preference for staggered? full flat without staggered is good because no little pokey cubby holes to have to put your feet (so I've heard).

I like Thai J, even though it's not the best product hard or soft, there's something about the Thai friendliness and service. And they had a heap of action movies on the entertainment system, rather than just dramas.

Who will be the first to let us know when 787s are available for seat selection?

Just 2 queries about TG J ex/into MEL if I may - are the beds on TG466 / TG461 flat or sloping please? Any pics this product pls?

I think that 465/466 are sloping and 461/462 are flat. That's certainly what we had recently.

There are two types of sloping seat depending on which model 777 you get on 461/462.

The 77W on 465/466 has Sogerma solstys staggered seats as per the Thai A380

I think there is an error on that latest Thai product chart for Sydney (and others). Unless there are some changes happening I didn't think there were any flat bed J seats on the 747-400 (any layout).

well spotted! no full flats in business class on any TG 747s. That should show as angled.

The 777s appear to be correct.

Revival of an old thread here...

I ended up booking Thai via Lifemiles and am very glad I did.

Thai are running their Dreamliner PER-BKK and it was great. The new J full-flat seats are excellent, even if you do put your feet in the little cubbyhole I managed a good sleep on the overnight run. On the way over there the service was excellent, firendly smiles and bottomless wine and good catering. Couldn't fault it and sought out the CSM on the way out to complement him on his crew.
On the way back BKK-PER the service was pretty average. They still served the food etc but didn't refill drinks or when they did they didn't wait/ignored when MrGlider tried to tell them he wanted the other wine instead, clearing took a while, catering wasn't as pleasant etc. Nothing unforgivable but noticable poorer than the PER-BKK leg.

The domestic leg from BKK-CNX and back was still on a widebody each time, but not the dreamliner and we got two different versions of the old international J product. I can see why people aren't overjoyed about it. It's adequate, but I wouldn't want to try and sleep on it. Lucky BKK-CNX is only an hour. IFE installed but not available on domestic sectors.

I was amazed however that on a 1 hour flight those hosties shovel out a full J meal and drinks service. You go ladies! Seatbelt sign off, BAM tablecloth deployed. Drink comes out, BAM food deployed. Last person finishes last mouthful of food, BAM tables all cleared. Tables cleared, BAM tea and coffee. Ladies subtlely patrol watching for empty coffee cups, BAM cup gone as it touches the saucer. Seatbelt sign back on, perpare for landing.

EDIT: Also, I booked in July last year, and was not affected by ANY Thai scheduling changes. Chuffed about that!

Glad to hear that you had a good trip Glider.

I ended doing the 8 flight / 21 day trip last July / August. I can remember it was the hottest Scandi summer in 30 years (35 degrees in Stockholm and a lot of hotels are not air-conditioned) and arriving home wrecked.

The 787 is a firm favorite for me.

Back to BKK in a fortnight. Just holidays this time. PER-SIN-KL-HK-BKK-DPS-PER over 14 days.:)
