Revival of an old thread here...
I ended up booking Thai via Lifemiles and am very glad I did.
Thai are running their Dreamliner PER-BKK and it was great. The new J full-flat seats are excellent, even if you do put your feet in the little cubbyhole I managed a good sleep on the overnight run. On the way over there the service was excellent, firendly smiles and bottomless wine and good catering. Couldn't fault it and sought out the CSM on the way out to complement him on his crew.
On the way back BKK-PER the service was pretty average. They still served the food etc but didn't refill drinks or when they did they didn't wait/ignored when MrGlider tried to tell them he wanted the other wine instead, clearing took a while, catering wasn't as pleasant etc. Nothing unforgivable but noticable poorer than the PER-BKK leg.
The domestic leg from BKK-CNX and back was still on a widebody each time, but not the dreamliner and we got two different versions of the old international J product. I can see why people aren't overjoyed about it. It's adequate, but I wouldn't want to try and sleep on it. Lucky BKK-CNX is only an hour. IFE installed but not available on domestic sectors.
I was amazed however that on a 1 hour flight those hosties shovel out a full J meal and drinks service. You go ladies! Seatbelt sign off, BAM tablecloth deployed. Drink comes out, BAM food deployed. Last person finishes last mouthful of food, BAM tables all cleared. Tables cleared, BAM tea and coffee. Ladies subtlely patrol watching for empty coffee cups, BAM cup gone as it touches the saucer. Seatbelt sign back on, perpare for landing.
EDIT: Also, I booked in July last year, and was not affected by ANY Thai scheduling changes. Chuffed about that!
