The BYO Wine Restaurant Thread

The most annoying thing is where they might have a small list by the glass. Say 5 whites. Three will be a SSB or some variant. Like seriously...3/5 are the same?!

Bistro Rex in Sydney reduced the BYO charge from $30 to $20 per bottle but unfortunately only offer BYO on Monday and Tuesday nights, however also during lunches Thursday to Sunday.

They also offer impeccable glassware and decanting

One reason that I like the Duke of Brunswick in ADL is that the price charged for wine, very good wine too, is most reasonable. Guess where I'm going this week.
There is another place where I hosted a few AFFers, told to bring all the wine you like, we're interested in the food. Corkage was $20 IIRC.

Maybe we can add restaurants where the markup is not excessive. Oushou Japanese in Brighton VIC is reasonable.

Porcine has been fantastic, BYO has gone up a little to $35 a bottle now.
Is that a recent change? I could have sworn that I have contacted them and asked them about BYO and was told under no circumstances it was possible.

We go to an excellent Chubby Cheeks eatery across the road (sort of) that allows BYO Tue-Thu and Sun. But I also BYO my own glasses there.

:)

A new find from me, Alta Trattoria on Brunswick Street Fitzroy. BYO lunchtimes only, corkage 25 but really good glassware and service. More pasta forward than Scopri, I ended up there because it's open Saturday lunchtime.

A couple of other decent Italian restaurants in Melbourne: Geppetto Trattoria in East Melbourne ($15 corkage) and Tavola in Bentleigh ($15 corkage; lunch only).

What red wines do you gents take to Asian BYO? I always struggle... shiraz with a black pepper beef at Chinese seems to be OK. Cab Sauv with pork dishes (non-spicy). Duck obviously Pinot. But once the Asian food has spice in it, I find it kills the pairings with big Aussie reds.

Cold climate (peppery) Shiraz, a more elegant style of Shiraz than warm climate, more spicy than big and goes very well with spicy dishes.
