The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

As I have posted here/elsewhere using that "doubling" methodology for estimation isn't realistic.

Irrespective of the rate of jabs it will still be three months before those getting their second AZ would have it.

Some media used that methodology a month ago to stretch estimates out to mid/late 2022.

If every Australian Adult who wants to be vaccinated has their first jab by end of September they should have had their second jab be end of December.
As long as the Federal Government acknowledges that once everyone who wants a vaccine has had it, we open up in some way. Don't want anti vaxxers stop me from travelling for the next 10 years.

O
Approx needed for herd immunity = 20M fully vaccinated = 40M doses, less 5M already in arms = 35M to go. 800K per week = 44 weeks = all done April 2022, one month before election. The PM would be in cloud nine if that happened.

My second Pfizer dose 11.15AM tomorrow.

Booking Krakow return departing 1/7/2022 on QFF as soon as QFF bookings open, should have done in around 2 months.
OH Krakow, take me back there, such a wonderful cultured City, love it.

My 1st dose tomorrow 830am.

There’s still many, many adults to vaccinate before the government needs to think about doing children. They can wait and see how countries overseas find their child vaccination programs go over coming months.
I haven’t disputed that re: adults - but “beating” Covid definitely requires vaccinating children (as well as achieving a global 70% vaccination rate). I hate the idea of “let’ just sit back and wait to see what other countries do” - first world countries should all take ownership of achieving 70% vaccination of human beings around the world.

The point is that they are not going to give kids AZ and it will be months before we have enough Pfizer or other vaccines to start vaccinating kids under 16.

Has anyone tried to make a booking for a hub in Victoria? What a convoluted mess. The web site is basically circular (follow the references, and you end up where you started). Ring the number, and nowhere in the options does it mention making a booking. It becomes circular too. Select randomly, and the wait is akin to calling Qantas. And after all of that, the person at the end of the call doesn't really want to take the booking and just says to 'walk in'.

I persevered because it was raining and I had nothing better to do. I'd expect that a huge percentage who ring will simply give up. I'm starting to think the Victorian government likes the current situation....they certainly aren't doing anything to end it.

Yes! It is circular because apparently the Vic booking system isn’t operational yet. The only way to make a booking is to call. The best number is 1800 571 121. You will need to select option 1, and then 1 again IIRC.

You may need to try calling, continuously, on redial before you finally get a gap in the system to allow you to connect. People have reported dialling 10-30 times (back-to-back) before getting connected.

Once connected it’s anywhere from 5-10 minutes before getting through to an agent.

I've gotten thru twice after only redialling 3 or 4 times, no sweat.
Some Ppl just enjoy complaining I guess.

Had my 1st Jab at Jeff's shed this morning, there's as many walkins as bookings.
They just let the bookings thru the door on opening (regardless of booking time, that's irrelevant, seems all 830am) first then walk-ins tag on the back once all bookings sent thru. All one line.
Impressed by the organisation, not perfect, but unknowingly how many will turn up etc.

So if one had no patience for the phone, just turn up.
Mind you upon leaving at 915am, the line was inside the building out of the cold & wasn't that long, 90min wait or so I'm told.

I've waited lot longer in covid test que.

Agree, I booked my parents neighbours in for them (long story.....) and got through first try - I called first thing in the AM.

Do NSW shut down their vaccination centres on weekends? Even QLD got close to them...
Yes, a lot close. There are a couple that stay open but not many, a number are open Sat morning only. I know this by experience trying to book my wife in for a weekend appointment!

Come to SA for a vaccine - Noarlunga is about 30 minutes south of Adelaide and plenty of appointments. They are using the building that Masters built to open their store there that was never opened. It is vast

And someone’s wife is doing the vaccinating there this week. 🤔😉.

The frustrating thing in NSW is the most max vac centres dont open weekends, and when they do the appointments have been reserved for 1a and 1b. When i booked my Pfizer at Olympic Park, there were no Saturday appointments and i checked til end of August. But my cousin who is 1b could get a Saturday appointment even though he tried after me - so choice is being limited by category. Not all of the 26 Pfizer hubs are open to general under 50s yet, some still only doing under 50s in 1a, 1b and 2a or household members of 1a/b.

The NSW Health website states "NSW Health’s vaccination clinics generally operate Monday to Friday. Therefore, there may be limited vaccines administered on weekend days and public holidays due to planned closures." To make it easier for people of working age to get vaccinated, Gladys needs to have the metro Pfizer hubs open all day Saturday and Sunday, as this is when it is easiest for people to go and get it done without misisng paid employment.

If not restricted to NT residents we now could see a rush of travel to the NT with everyone over 16 now eligible to be vaccinated.

Classic "dog ate my homework" type of excuse. Gladys has it all over her for courage, having had her AZ right at the start.

Of my close family (eg wife, children/spouses), 3 out of 4 have had AZ (youngest 40yo), 1 Pfizer, and 2 under 30 waiting their turn which will be Pfizer. One brother had Pfizer as on front line (Border Force) and his wife was invited to join that group and has had her Pfizer as well (both over 50). Another brother and his wife have had AZ, so overall will end up about 5 all.

I just do not understand the terror struck into the hearts of (just) over 50s about AZ given the likely impact of the Delta strain if they come into contact.
My 29 year old daughter and 31 year old son in law have both had AZ. The rules were changed shortly after they were vaccinated. They weren’t at all worried about clots, just happy to be vaccinated. Our family is about half and half. Son and his partner and oldest daughter and brother and his family have had Pfizer but that’s mainly because they were overseas. Mr FM’s sisters in Australia are having AZ.

I suspect Ms FM’s in-laws who are just over 50 are not getting vaccinated because they don’t want AZ - they tend to be quite nervous types.

I have said it numerous times, vaccination hubs should be 24/7 till we get through a big chunk of people. Ask for help from the military if need be. I'm currently down in Victoria for work and have given up on trying to get the jab.

The website goes in circles and the hotline is useless, plus I'm working nightshift = next to impossible to get the jab.

Good set of numbers for Sunday, with Vic really smashing it out. Nearly 43,000 vaccinations for Vic on a Sunday!

takes the weeks total to just short of 833,000

Yes, here is the breakdown for Sunday.
The other states really need to pull the finger out and vaccinate on weekends for goodness sakes...

Covid still goes to work on Sundays!
