The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Received my jab today at Rocklea, which is meant to be one of Brisbane's mass vaccination hubs. Spoke to the nurse, she said they are doing around 1200 people per day there. And this is meant to be a 'Mass Vaccination Hub' in QLD.

Why is Australia so backward sometimes?

At this rate, it will be a long time before we achieve herd immunity....

this is basically a slow roll out sadly... we need and can do more than that!

Well there are both supply and demand issues with the rollout that need to be sorted out.

So feds have just published some new data re first and second doses by age and gender:

447k people under 40 have had both doses of the vaccine probably Pfizer given the timing - that's about 1/4 of all Pfizer doses.

So those saying not much Pfizer given to younger people are not correct. The under 50s (most of whom would have had Pfizer) account for about 48% of vaccinations so far.

First doses looking good for 70+. Need them to take their second doses when due. Good progress on first doses on 60+ and a long way to go for younger age groups.

Interesting seeing the female bias for dose 2 (working age) - more aged care & health care workers?

and, @louie-m , can I just say, how nice to have a genuinely curious, open-minded on-line chat about this. Thank you for your respectful courtesy.

And remember, I did say that I know I am being a bit irrational as I have had AZ and would always have preferred AZ - they just got my back up leaving me forced into it, with no choice at all in the matter.
Honestly, turn your back for a second (to go and get jabbed) and it all kicks off. It's taken me all day to get up to date!

I understand your frustration at feeling railroaded. I feel the same about certain things in my life. Just not that! I'm frustrated because I can't see my family and feeling powerless whilst certain state premiers and CHOs seem to be doing their best to scupper the rollout for overtly political reasons. And all I can do is shout at the TV.

Anyway, I applaud you for suppressing your frustrations and getting on with getting jabbed.

OT: I had a look at my newly updated vaccination record when I got back last night. My random flu vacs were Afluria Quad last year and FluQuadri this year. Did I do well?

If we can get up around 70% fully vaccinated for the vulnerable age groups which should be achievable in the next three to four months based on those first dose figures we really should be ready to have some easing of international travel restrictions for those vaccinated if politics doesn’t get in the way.

I get the feeling the Commonwealth CMO won't agree with that...

A generalization that is often made (no idea if its factual or not) is that women tend to be more proactive about health checks etc.

We should probably stop talking about gender. I don't think that's welcome here ;)

Although serious question, how are they reporting on non-binary? Didn't think governments were allowed to restrict gender to M/F any more.

When I got my first vaccine at Austin Health....at the check in area, they asked everyone how they identified. I saw several 80+ year olds, some of whom clearly didn't have English as a first language, being asked. "Do you identify as male?" or "Do you identify as female?". There was a bit of bemusement!

What those numbers show is that say in 3-4 months we should say everyone over 40 who has not had their first dose can get their choice of vaccine now (those who have had their first can only get the same for the second) with some significant travel restriction easing announced to take place before Christmas where home quarantine can start. This would hopefully get the numbers vaccinated in 40+ to push even higher.

That is not correct. We are above the world average for at least one dose.

There are quite a few ALP produced graphs that have selectively omitted several countries to show Australia further down the list. I suggest you go to an impartial source.

An impartial source showing us dead last in the OECD on total vaccinations: COVID-19 Data Explorer

An impartial source showing us fifth last (we've moved up a couple of spots overnight -- what an achievement!) in the OECD on first dose vaccinations: COVID-19 Data Explorer

How embarrassing.

Shockingly bad figures for those aged 57-75; 30+% without their first dose despite being given ample opportunity to do so.

Good to see some accurate data today

Luckily our opinions, embarrassment or lack thereof has no impact on the vaccination rate, which is starting to speed up significantly. Even AP said today there's no issue with future supply, we'll be swimming in Pfizer and Moderna in a couple of months.

Phew! And that's coming from AP! We can all rest easy.

Lucky people have not listened to the QLD tantrums then!
