The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

She’s gone in 4 months please hit mute whenever you see any of our QLD leaders come on to talk :)
Not wanting to extinguish that light at the end of the tunnel @jakeseven7, but you do realise who is going to choose the replacement, don't you?
And the current CHO will probably draw up the short list.

I hear Mavis the contract tracers' coughatiel is an early front-runner.

Saw in the Age today that we will all need boosters (no surprise) and likely that it will be a Pfizer booster which (as per article) will result in those who are fully vaccinated with AZ, being ultimately better protected. So a little carrot for those on the fence re: AZ? Will try to find the actual text and edit/post.

”“All of us are going to need boosters whether we’ve had Pfizer or AstraZeneca and so for people who have had two AstraZenecas, if they have a follow-up booster with Pfizer, when they become readily available towards the end of the year or early next year, and that’s the plan, that’s what’s been happening in the UK, you actually end up with better cover than if you had all Pfizer. So that is good news for the AstraZeneca vaccines.””

That's been around for quite some time now and seems very likely. Id expect offers of boosters around March next year to start.

Yes, and they need to shout the positives from the roof tops. Wasn’t someone a marketing executive in the past?

I just googled Morrison's wiki. He was head of Tourism Australia! 😱. If that's whom you may be referring to, given his messaging on the vaccine he needs to be kept as far away as possible. Surely there is better talent out there than what we currently have?

Yes the mixed vaccine results so far from overseas look very promising.

Though the booster for many could well be the Moderna mRNA vaccine given that the Federal Government already has in place an agreement for 15 million doses of booster or variant-specific versions of the vaccine.

Doses for Australia

Supply in Australia will only commence should the vaccine be approved as safe and effective by Australia's regulator, the TGA. An application by Moderna to the TGA is expected shortly.
Should the TGA approve the vaccine, Moderna will supply 25 million doses from late 2021. The agreement is for 10 million doses of their current vaccine, and 15 million doses of booster or variant-specific versions of the vaccine.
The Moderna vaccine also has the advantage that it does not require the much colder storage temperatures that the Pfizer requires and so will make it easier to be used in all distribution channels including GPs (both practices as well as the GP Respiratory Clinics), Pharmacies as well as Hubs. This will also make it easier to boost people in more remote settings.

The target needs to be set based on being offered a vaccine (having supplies available for you to book and receive your two doses) and not people actually taking it. It is unfair to keep the majority locked down because a minority choose not to get vaccinated.

On the Drum last night Dr Norman Swan was saying the modeleing with the 80% traget was for 80% of people over 12. Given there is no vacicne approved for 12-15 year olds in Australian, its going to be a long long time before we can move freely interstate without risk of lock out and 12th of never for international.

We need big sticks since the Prime Minister's road map has no carrots whatsover, free movement is only in the 4th stage which looks to be years away. Money talks - from the date your cohort is eligible for a vaccine you should only have 8 weeks to get your first dose. If at the end of the 2022 tax year, anyone not fully vaccinated should be hit with an extra 2% medicare levy, and for those not working reduce their pension by 2% or take away their senior health card which entitles them to discounted medicines - then watch them all rush to comply.

I saw a YouTube yesterday which was much better. It had a woman who had lost her husband to Covid last year talking about needing to get vaccinated. It was quite sad :(. They seem to have other ones coming up

I think I saw on Sky News that there are apparently rumours circling that comedic ads are being planned to encourage people to get vaccinated, which the commentator said seems to be rather poor taste to trivialise a health issue.

Going to need something else as well - plenty of us geriatrics who neither receive a Government Pension nor qualify for a health card….

Oh gosh what a fuddy duddy - of course we need something to engage the young ones! Singapore and New Zealand have done it.

Yeah but its a good start. Money really does talk, maybe need to also add a non vax levy onto private health insurance, car registration etc too.

Also restrictions on being able to attend restaurants, theatre, concerts, sporting events etc.

Oh I agree - the childcare subsidy thing has seen vaccinations lift to 95% in Canberra. I do think having vaccinations for hospitality would be good as well - maybe even a starting point.

151,496 vaccinations yesterday - must be a record for a Friday. Also puts the weekly running total at 864,000

Received my jab today at Rocklea, which is meant to be one of Brisbane's mass vaccination hubs. Spoke to the nurse, she said they are doing around 1200 people per day there. And this is meant to be a 'Mass Vaccination Hub' in QLD.

Why is Australia so backward sometimes?

At this rate, it will be a long time before we achieve herd immunity....
I tried to get my 2nd dose of Pfizer at Rocklea there were no appointments available through to end of September, until there is more Pfizer will never get over a million a week.

Was talking to a friend this morning her sister lives on sunshine coast and is over 60, so should have received AZ but the clininc at Caloundra was not checking eligiblity at all so she was able to get Pfizer . When you have clinincs giving out Pfizer to ineligble people it doesnt bode well for second doses being available for the eligible.

The Prime Minister needs to call Biden and offer to buy some of their excess MRNA vaccines directly, as Canada did.

ACT people are really doing their bit! 88% of 70+ with one dose (26% fully vaccinated). 68% of 50+ with one dose ( 15% fully vaccinated).

The official numbers:

They need to split this slide by vaccine.

I keep reading posts here by people compalining their doctor wrongly told them to contact a hospital to get vaccinated or using hot docs (a GP booking system), then complaining they cant find Pfizer appoints etc

The official site to check your eligiblity and then search for places near you taking bookings for your cohort is:

The site lists the Commowealth Respiratory Clinincs, GP Practices and the state run Mass Vacination hubs (and will list pharmacies when added), and gives an indication of when next available appoitnment is. The state hubs and RCs can then be booked online using the links as can some of the GPs, whilst others require a call.

If you are in 1a or 1b or over 40 and havent yet locked in your shot, try using the official site. Provided you are willing to get the recommended vaccine i.e. AZ for over 60s or Pfizer for 40-59s you dont need a GP referral of any kind to book via the official site.

To post such condescending advice indicates that you have not actually at all understood, or sought to understand, their posts. Once again not everyone could, or can, get immediately get vaccinated. Some have had, or still have, hurdles to overcome.

There are also priority groups who the Feds are meant to have had special programs to vaccinate, and a number of people in these are still waiting. Others have to manage their vaccinations around their treatments.

Posting that they should all just click on the standard link, just demonstrates that you have not at all understood what people have posted.

For example:

One of my sisters had to have her doctor review her complicated medical history and it took a period of time before he recommended which vaccine that she should take.

Or my disabled brother who had to wait till very recently until the Feds were ready to deploy a team at his facility.' And no it would not have been at all a good idea to take him to a hub earlier as 1/ He would not have dealt with the experience at all well, and 2/ He is not capable of monitoring himself for post vaccination adverse symptoms and so this could only be done when the facility and staff were ready to do so.
