To be honest, its not really an ambition if a place is doing 400-500,000 jabs per week already and had done almost 4 million that this point.

And imagine what it would be if we had decent Pfizer allocation. PM needs to do ore to bring forward ore Pfizer.

Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young urges young Queenslanders to consider AstraZeneca vaccine

Just 24 hours after saying young Queenslanders should not take the AstraZeneca vaccine, chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young has changed her advice.

Sure but take a look at what happened in Victoria immediately after the June lockdown (the number of vaccinations dropped off rapidly). If the lockdown and the potential promise of getting out of it is going to drive vaccination, then push it as hard as you can in my view.

Which is probably an indicator the NSW Premier wants to end lockdown in some form comes 28 August - possibly in the 'non-concerned' LGAs.

The PM refuses to take Pfizer away from the other states to give to NSW. I’m sure behind the scenes they are doing everything they can to try to get Pfizer and Moderna doses early, but those companies already have commitments to meet to other nations and the US export ban to contend with.

People need to take AZ which they can get now.

That would be my guess but as she keeps saying decisions will be made based on the health data. They'd be hoping the vaccination of essential workers will start to reduce spread for those people who are (necessarily) leaving the LGA's of concern which would increase their confidence in a measure such as this, but there are no guarantees.

The Lockdown (or variations of) will never end unless you get vaccination levels up to demanded levels. Delta too ingrained into Sydney.

Well given the NSW Premier's focus on schools and work, its possible 'no lockdown' could mean schools re-open and the authorised work list won't apply to the non-concerned LGAs.

If it happens before we are awash with Pfizer (I think that's still late September), then it happens with demanded levels not being vaccinated.

Whether its labeled a lockdown or not doesn't really matter.

Whilst I am fully Pfizer'd up, took mine the first day Pfizer clinic opening in town on 17th May, there are so many of my clients and people I know haven't had it yet, hesitant or straight up no.

Husband & wife client came in 15 minutes ago, both late 40's. stated not getting it yet (not outright no but in no rush given quickness to TGA approval and not knowing long term effects).

I still have trouble seeing any state getting to 70% fully vaccinated let alone 80%.

You need a France or Italy discrimination policy against unvaccinated to get vaccination rates high.

We'll start softly softly soon, but restrictions to unvaccinated will firm up early 2022, mark my words*.

*Big stick of course cannot start until maybe January-February 2022 as everyone needs a chance to get vaccinated before we can restrict.

Not everyone can take AZ i.e pregant women and many do not want AZ. AZ alone is not going to get us to 9%, we need the MRNAs for that.

And you need to implement this vaccine privilige (no jab no play) now for anyone aged over 50 who have already had months to get vaccinated, then phase it in for 40-49s from September and 16-39s from November to ensure we get to 80% by Christmas.

Instead of demanding people be vaccinated through either the creation of incentive or disincentive, if a significant number of people in the country are hesitant because of this, it would strike me as rather obvious that a straight up education campaign would give an excellent return for money spent.

Their decision to use "Statistical Areas" rather than LGAs or suburbs is annoying makes it very hard to cross check numbers, but unsurprisingly the lowest rates (below the state and national average) coincide with the 8 LGAs of concern.

In Victoria the figures are similar. Unsurprisingly, but unfortunately, the lowest vaccination rates are in Melbourne's North West and West. Guess which areas were most affected by the COVID in 2020?

Not everyone can take AZ
But most people can. Nearly everyone has had plenty of time to have one or both doses of AZ.

Big stick for 1st dose should start now for 18+ as nearly everyone has been able to get at least one AZ dose by now if they want it.

Speak to any behavioural scientist, they will tell you that straight up education usually does not translate into action (change in behaviour). More sophisticated tools, or what are known as "nudges" are needed. I am not sure that spending lots of $$$ on incentives is necessarily the answer either.
