The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Oops meant to say above 80% of 70+ have first dose when today's numbers come out tomorrow, not fully vaccinated sadly.

While it's not a race see that NSW has now leapfrogged both the NT and Victoria in terms of first doses. It's amazing what a lockdown (and the promise that if we get enough people vaccinated we might get out of it) can do to incentivise people.

Probably a pity that it is not a race as we probably would have had a lot more people vaccinated..

With NSW they currently have a greater incentive (re increased threat) , together with also:
  • greater access at present to Pfizer
  • relaxed rules on who can get now AZ and how they can get it (ie without GP consult)

If we had not butchered the AZ rollout ( in particular Fed mixed and changing messaging and Dr Young's comments) we as a nation would be in a much better state now. The whole notion of only assessing the threat from covid cases in the short-term rather than for the whole of the rollout period was deeply flawed.

Yeah, it's a shame the limitations of a forum, I was trying to be ironic there!. For me it clearly should be a race to get to the stage so many countries are now either at or nearly so while we remain locked down or locked in depending on your state.

NSW really should be able to win this race hopefully given anyone 18+ can access a vaccine right now! Not the same in other states…. Hopefully this will change soon.

I had my first AZ over 4 weeks ago as someone in 2B in Victoria. Yes it’s just a little more difficult than it is now in NSW (as have to go to a GP in VIC) and harder than it should be, but not that difficult. Just have to go and see a GP for a consult, get them to book an appointment for the vaccine and then get the jab.

I don’t know if anyone has commented on this - haven’t noticed it. But Queensland has jumped from averaging 34,000 vaccinations on a week day, to 44,000 yesterday. Hope this is a trend!

And our (QLD) Health Minister is now rinsing the Feds in the media for not getting an extra 150,000 AZ doses here quick smart…. After weeks of our anti-AZ vax rhetoric and garbage, we are suddenly screeching that we want more AZ and YESTERDAY 😂

Seriously you could not make this stuff up…

QLD Health Minister blasts Hunt over extra Astra-Zeneca delay

Queensland Health Minister Yvetter D’Ath has taken aim at the Commonwealth over its delay delivering extra vaccines to the state.

Ms D’Ath said she was “doing everything possible” to fast-track vaccines to the state, after the Commonwealth advised it would be delivering extra AstraZeneca next week.

“The Commonwealth has got these vaccines already. They offered them a couple of days ago, so we would hope that that 150,000 vaccines can arrive earlier than next week,” Ms D’Ath said.

“But I don’t think it’s acceptable that (pharmacies) have to wait until next week to wait for the Commonwealth to deliver those vaccines and those consumables when they have got it in supply now and we ask them to be delivered as soon as possible because the sooner we start getting these vaccines in people’s arms, the safer those individuals become and the safer our community becomes.

How pathetic.

Agree, this is after all the same vaccine that Dr Young has been undermining more than any other person in authority.

If Ms D’Ath had of been proactive earlier she could easily have had more AZ into arms in Queensland earlier. Instead she was part of the AZ vaccination problem.

Just looking at covidlive and Qld is higher than Vic

Maybe its a race.

A surge in cases will do that. Unfortunately the surge does not seem to last if cases drop off :(

How pathetic.

Yes all of the QLD ‘leaders’ are now realising they’ve made a terrible terrible mistake re: vaccine scare tactics up here and now it’s deflection time - big time…. 3.5 months until we get rid of our CHO, not that anyone is counting of course ;)

I truly hope the whole of Australia is beginning to see through the mess ATAGI, the likes of Dr Young, the media has made - I do feel the tide is turning, there’s so much buzz on social now to get any jab you can lay your hands on, the young people seem be galvanising now…

Tomorrow's Front Page on the Herald Sun: "Victorian children aged 12 and above to get vaccinated at school from December" - "...at least one dose this year..."

NT News - "$500 Jab Incentive" - "The central land council offering ... a cash incentive ... the first NT business or organisation to offer a financial payment..."

The first headline seems to be leveraging off the Lieutenant General's press conference today.

I think it was said the intent was all schools would have the first dose by Christmas

Further to this, even Australia’s most staunch and well known anti AZ vaxxer, the QLD CHO, has started to back pedal on their position faster than you can say ‘backflip’….

Happily though this flip is FINALLY in the right direction….

Queenslanders urged to consult their GP for vaccine advice as outbreak worsens

On Monday, Queensland's chief health officer, Dr Jeannette Young, emotionally
reiterated that she did not want young people to get the AstraZeneca vaccine. Now she has changed her advice, warning the situation had changed with the rapid spread of the Delta variant and young people should go and see their GP to access the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"The ATAGI advice says when you reach a large outbreak — which we're now on the verge of ... then that is the time to go and have that discussion with your GP," Dr Young said.

"So, this is the time that people who are under age 60 should be talking to their GP about what is best for them.

Later, the Queensland Health Minister blasted the Federal Government for ‘not being quick enough’ to fast track 150,000 extra doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the state.
