The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Just tried it for a 34 year old in Melbourne. Unsurprisingly, it crashed.
I had a look yesterday...there seemed to be not too bad availability for a first dose Pfizer in about a weeks time (40-59 age). There is no option on the site for an under 60 to opt into AZ.

This result came back for the AZ using Newport, VIC for a 34 y.o. with no concerns or history. Might be more an IT issue than an availability one.

I skimmed the comments in The Age - they were overwhelmingly positive - at least around 10am this morning.
I went where I knew the idiots would be - news.com and yes very anti the whole concept of making an “experimental vaccine” compulsory. Lots of huffing and puffing about never buying their products again :)

No surprises there, its all about which social media you read. Am sure most of those saying they wont buy any products from SPC will have forgotten by next week.

New study indicates conspiracy theory believers have less developed critical thinking abilities (psypost.org)

"The medical regulator said in Australia, severe cases of TTS appeared to be more common in women, especially those in younger age groups.

Nearly half of the women with TTS needed intensive care treatment, and five of the six TTS deaths occurred in women."

Unfortunately are likley to see more of these with more and more younger people opting for AZ because our govenrment has failed to make sufficient Pfizer available in a timely manner.

Perhaps time to consider prioritising Pfizer for women under 50, AZ seems to be less risky for younger men.

The appointments that were cancelled/delayed should now be able to be reinstated.

Our government, or export bans of other governments (eg USA) meaning we can not get the doses we want?

Was in my local pharmac_ yesterday in inner west sydney to get a scrip filled. Had to wait five minutes because the pharmacist was giving an AZ vaccine to someone. She apologised profusely to me for the delay to which I replied “no problems whatsoever what you were just doing is far more important than five minutes of my time.”

I’ve done my bit, well half of it, I’ve had my first dose of AZ.

70+ over 80% first dose so hopefully 70+ will reach 80% or thereabouts fully vaccinated in early November.

Over 2/3 of 50+ with first dose.

Every age group 75-79 and up except 95+ has over 80% first dose.

Every age group 40-44 and up has over 20% second dose.

My local pharmacist said to me last week, that she was excited to be finally activated for vaccination, since they had been spending a lot of time answering vaccination questions from their customers from last year and can now finally deliver.

Multiple relevant stories on tomorrow’s Front Pages but this one is a standout for sad reasons:

The Daily Telegraph: “Not one person in this COVID-19 ward is fully vaccinated against the virus. It’s a… DOSE OF REALITY”

Multiple stories about pleading for Pfizer e.g. The Age - “Pfizer plea as Andrews ‘gutted’ by lockdown”

Politicians need to be gutted by the lockdown. They need to feel the pain so they are prompted to make sure there is a plan forward. I get the sense in SA that the politicians here enjoy it because we are such a damn compliant population here.

Current projections have everyone vaccinated by end of January. The date moves forward all the time.

Covid Live has 80% fully vaccinated by 19 December - it keeps moving backwards as well. Flying Mermaid prediction remains November. I need to believe it is going to happen soon - I am totally over it all!
