The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Politicians need to be gutted by the lockdown. They need to feel the pain so they are prompted to make sure there is a plan forward. I get the sense in SA that the politicians here enjoy it because we are such a damn compliant population here.
Yep, they're quite insulated from it all. Perhaps they, and all of the cohorts of bureaucracy should have their pay docked for all periods of lockdown.

Covid Live has 80% fully vaccinated by 19 December - it keeps moving backwards as well. Flying Mermaid prediction remains November. I need to believe it is going to happen soon - I am totally over it all!
Well if we keep having the outbreaks and lockdowns we currently have we will get it done by December but the trouble with that is it means outbreaks and lockdowns for another 4-5 months. The stats (e.g. see Victoria after the June lockdown) show that as soon as lockdown passes people stop getting vaccinated in anything like as high numbers.

Is that what you really want?

In SA there just needs to be a mention of a case in overseas quarantine and that sends people off to buy toilet paper here. Maybe offer a jab with every roll? Pop up vaccination booth in that row?

Our government, or export bans of other governments (eg USA) meaning we can not get the doses we want?

FYI USA are now exporting doses of US made vaccines, Canada and Mexico have purchased decent quantities. US also exporting components to India.

Pfizer approached our govenrment a year ago, however the feds put too many eggs in the AZ basket and took months to order any Pfizer at all, by which point we were lower down the delivery queue and then they didnt order enough.

We should have ordered 52M doses from the get go, other countries all ordered enough of each vaccine for their whole population from each company, ours didnt and we are all paying the price of lockdowns when we could have had much higher vaccinated, much earlier.

Obviously I don’t want that.

the reality is that it keep happening whether anyone wants it or not. Vaccination IS the only way out.

Oh sorry we didn’t get that memo, we gave our dubiously performing QLD CHO a 12% pay increase, I mean it’s hard to live in Brisbane on anything less than 700,000 so that’s what they are paid now.
Sorry, love Queensland.

With over three million Pfizer doses shipped for injection for the 3 weeks ending Aug 1st - there should be no shortage of bookings for people who are elligible - but there is.

Last week had just over 1 million Pfizer doses scheduled to be distributed for injection Australia-wide along with 1.6 million AZ.

The previous week saw only 200,000 AZ distributed along with 1 million Pfizer.

Given the significant (long contracted) increase in weekly supplies of Pfizer - there should be around 5 million appointments available for the next 4 weeks for Pfizer alone. Broken down to around 2 million second doses and 3 million 1st doses (based on old 3 week delay).

Adjusting for 6 week delay then it shifts to 1.2 million 2nd doses & 3.8 million 1st doses.

ABC 24 news channel now reporting about the difficulties of pregnant women getting the Pfizer jab, including:

1) The eligibility checker does not have a question for pregnancy
2) GPs not aware of the change and would not offer the jab
3) Supply issues

Am I right in that Qld is getting more jabbed than Vic the previous two days? Going for a three-peat today???

Our CHO got a pay rise more than 4x inflation and 10x average pay rises for the working population and suddenly started spruiking AZ. All related perhaps ;)

Fair carve up in the AFR digital edition on your favourite CHO Dr Young @jakeseven7

It is paywalled but if you don't have access you will get the gist from the opening paragraph.

I got round to reading it today - it was quite funny - particularly that she was advising Queenslanders with the Swine flu to stock up on canned goods in preparation. Seems she has form in hysteria.

I saw that. Puts a question mark over her earlier advice and continued mixed messaging.
I was curious and thought it maybe just misinformation but there is some truth.

Graeme Nimmo is President of the Australian Society for
Antimicrobials. He has served on advisory boards for Novartis and Pfizer, and
has received lecture fees from bioMerieux and reimbursement for travel and
accommodation from Novartis, Pfizer and bioMerieux.

I was also very sceptical of another claim that he had received money from Pfizer for lectures but turns out this is actually true.

G.A.M. Nimmo received honoraria from Pfizer and Shire/Takeda and received consulting fees from Shire/Takeda.

I have no idea if he has also received benefits from AstraZeneca. I am not suggesting this compromised the advice from Dr Young, however in my view it doesn't really pass the old "pub test"

Getting away from the CHO we all love to hate and back to vaccinations. Another amazing day for Australia. 240,000 vaccinations and the weekly running total is now 1,264,318

edit tas managed to beat ACT by being the first to 50% for a first jab of 16+ population, but ACT over 70 figures are amazing with 93% first jab and closing in on 60% fully vaccinated

I've been waiting for the update.

My mental calculation/comparison thinks Qld beat Vic today.

Now waiting for an update from an expected uneventful National Cabinet.

The ACT is pretty close to 50% with first dose for 16+ so it should reach that soon.

Nationwide Over 30% of 50+ are fully vaccinated now. SA, VIC and WA are below 30% still.

Every age group 30-34 and up has over 20% with first dose.
