The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I can’t understand why this would be the case when their own clinic did not put up their hands to vaccinate.
Ah in that case, no.

But not putting their hands up might have been fed by a lack of belief in the economic return. I don't agree with that personally, but that is because I think there is a reality that if you work in healthcare, sometimes public health comes ahead of economic return. But there are GPs out there who firmly believe that Medicare has dropped the ball with not increasing GP funding enough, and they are obviously entitled to it.

I would say almost all GP's actually would agree that its crazy the Medicare rebate has remained frozen for so long, its basically driving bulk billing rates down through the floor and then hitting us, the paying consumers directly in the hip pocket for gap fees. But way off topic ;)

Given that it is the clinic sisters who administer it, and with no GP involvement, if they could operate it safely it might actually be a winner for them cash wise.

Well, FWIW, I had my first Covid jab this afternoon. When I arrived at the clinic (not my current GP), they said that my GP's surgery had not provided the Health Summary requested, because they needed the new clinic to fax my current GP with a request including my signature. Well, this was done, and I got my jab (eventually), but what a rigmarole. Who said it was supposed to be easy?

Anyway, the jab was completely painless (what a great nurse) and so far no side effects at all. Let's hope it does the job....

Well today's pace is at about 30 million vaccinations per year.

So they still need to more than double the average daily rate.

Easily done only about a quarter of GP clinics are up and running and of those who are, they are probably only running at 10-20%.

As have said previously it’s very clearly just a ‘get enough vaccine to the point of jab’ problem here. And that is only temporary.

Some GPs are not offering to be vaccination centres not because it is not economically viable but because that is not the way they practice medicine. Our GP is one of those and I totally understand his position. He has a full list and has enough work to keep him busy.He actually talks to the patient and not to the computer. He will not lose anyone because the practice is not offering covid vaccinations.

The GP doesn't have to get involved with giving the vaccination. I'd dare suggest that clinical nurses are more effective at giving vaccinations anyway. Just like they are in drawing blood. They do it so often in the main. I understand lack of space for observation being a concern.

Not all GP practices are owned by the chains. His is a small practice.Only 1 practice nurse who is already busy. Why increase staff? And as you allude the large practices can be like a sausage factory.

When did I allude anything like that with reference to Covid vaccination and GP Clinics? Sausages? 😉 Perhaps a reference to a one person practice may have explained why this practice didn't take steps to be involved with the process. To be honest I didn't even know one person practices still existed anymore due to coverage issues, sickness and leave etc.

Step outside Australia's capital cities and its amazing what you will see ;)

Yes in the bush you will see 1 doctor practices. The doctors are some of the most skilled in Australia as they really have to do everything.
But my GP is in a 3 doctor practice and prefers doing real medicine.
You would be amazed what some doctors are asked to do in the large corporate practices to increase turnover.Mass vaccinations suit their business plan admirably.

Well, it's at times like this that we can thank god for the large corporate practices then hey? Coz they are ones getting the vaccinations happening. Im guessing that's where you'll have to go? 😉😂

Personally I wouldn't send my dog to one of the corporate GP practices.

I have seen and heard a lot of things along the lines of what drron alludes to that confirms that the standard of care there is not exactly...... up to my personal expectations.
