The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Incentives are starting to roll out now. Crickets from the Feds.
Let's see how demand goes for 16-39. Once that drops off or if supply increases much faster unless they can start doing younger kids then incentives will be the next thing the government has to do.

I'm sure they will have already given incentives some thought for if/when they become necessary.

It won't be easy but GP surgeries are being given an increasing number of Pfizer doses over the past week or so. There is supply coming in and it is being thrown out there.
Just worked in a gp clinic outside sydney area and we havent had our allocation increased.
We have been almost completely responsible for 50-59% first dose for our postcode.
Phizer appointments are in short supply in Newcastle

I only caught snips of the NSW press conference on the radio this afternoon, but did I hear Gladys right when she said vaccinated people will get “special privileges” when NSW hits 6m doses?

Was at a vac hub in broadbeach getting number 2 today. Was surprised to see Fireman getting jabbed and hubby said there were cops in yesterday. Would have thought they were all jabbed already.. (On a side not... qld fireman got to jump the queue..nsw had to wait with the rest of us)

As much as I think qld new border rules with nsw are awful it is getting people into the vac centres from both sides of the border. Apparently broadbeach is doing 1400 a day.

No we shouldn't have to but that's the world we live in. Makes those who just get vaccinated the kind of people we want as friends. But if needs must, then...

I don’t think we do. Well, we being NSW. We’re at 55% first jab and booked solid for the next three months. I think there’s enough natural incentive.

No, SIL works in a Vacc hub and front line workers go to the walk in part and are immediately vaccinated. And still coming in. She did tell a story of a guy who wanted Pfizer. His history was noted - turned out he had his second AZ a month ago and now wanted a Pfizer booster. Needless to say, on yer bike fella.

And that would be a great outcome if we don't need it. I don't see it as a negative though. It does show the businesses offering incentives are very pro vaccination so even the gesture reinforces the message.

She has been saying something on those lines for weeks…….She backs down a bit when she gets attacked on that, but it keeps surfacing again. I gather it might be something like a fully vaccinated person can get their cut by another fully vaccinated person.

I thought she’d gone quiet on it. I believe we’re only a few days away from that now.

She keeps circling around it, but it’s clearly something she wants to do, because it keeps popping back up. I generally listen to her presser everyday, but didn’t today as it clashed with an investment briefing for one of my shares - got to prioritise :)

EDIT - should hit it early next week.

SA CHO has said that even after 80% Vacc rate that we will still have to wear masks pretty much everywhere and at least until next year. Will be interesting to see what happens on our first hot summers day that can occur from October onwards if we have reached that target.
I do not see this as a problem as SA is generally dry heat, I spent the better half of 10 years travelling Asia (South and North) and was often wearing masks. When our state has been on fire MrsM was often rattling through my stash of masks for herself and MissM so they did not have to breath in the fire smoke. As you would be aware SA has often stay indoors alerts depending on the fire extremity and wind direction.

Should be noted that NSW is also making it 8wks between Pfizer doses, both for those in the LGA, and the broader 16-39 population when that opens at the end of August.

So arguably you'd still be fully vaccinated earlier getting AZ this week.

As supply increases if the demand for 1st doses doesn't keep up at some point they may shorten the gap a bit again, I suspect, though that might not be till November or December.

Not sure how new this NSW Health page is but maps look well put together for both cases and vaccinations over last few weeks by LGA and postcode

Less than a week (hard to tell with groundhog day).....I think it was mentioned that there was a vaccination map (which I posted on - on the vaccination thread) at one of the press conferences.

Does anyone know why Edmondson Park and Schofields have such a high vaccination rate (90%+ first dose)
Full of nursing homes?
Lots of hospital staff living there?

The ABC ran an article about this a couple of days ago. The reason advanced was that those areas have a large Indian community who had heard graphic reports of the Covid epidemic from their families in India. They were determined to get ahead of any outbreaks here.
