The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

The ABC ran an article about this a couple of days ago. The reason advanced was that those areas have a large Indian community who had heard graphic reports of the Covid epidemic from their families in India. They were determined to get ahead of any outbreaks here.

I think it's just incorrect population data.

Newcastle West is showing 90%+, and nothing special about that suburb, however it lists the population as 500, it must be way more than that. They have high rise apartment buildings.

I can use my eyes, I live just down the road in Honeysuckle.

Heaps of new development in that area and new buildings that have opened up in the last 12 months.
If its less than a year, query whether they have changed residency data???? ie for Medicare/vaccination purposes

I think you answered the issue, they've got the numbers from the census, not real data like electoral enrolment or medicare etc (noting not everyone has medicare)

I know I hadn't changed my medicare for ages.........and I had moved a couple of time in the interim.

Also with new high rise developments, it sometimes takes time to be 'full' occupancy in my observation

Nah, some buildings in the last 12 months but others 2-3 years old now. I think they're all about 100% occupancy, there's a rental shortage in Newcastle.

Should be noted that NSW is also making it 8wks between Pfizer doses

That is not true across the board, it is still possible to get 2nd Pfizer at 3 weeks, my sister got her second dose at day 22 today. An ex-colleague in her 30s living in SW Sydney got her first dose at Qudos yesterday, 2nd dose appoitnment is in exactly 4 weeks.

There are heaps of pfizer appointments available at Qudos for those 16-39 in next two weeks if you live in one of the 12 LGAs. However if these are not fully booked in next week, i hope they extend age at Quodos to 59 and send more doses to other parts of Greater Sydney where people will use them.

Second day in a row the Vic presser also advertising over 10k of unbooked Pfizer doses in the next two weeks.

Dont believe the media bs about appointments being hard to come by there is availability, book it.

PM flags no big decisions from National Cabinet

National Cabinet is meeting this afternoon where state and territory leaders will discuss the response to both COVID-19 and the crisis in Afghanistan.

On the COVID-front, the group will go over the increasing vaccination rates and also continue to work on the plan for how to vaccinate children aged 12 to 15 if the expert vaccine panel gives it the green light next week.

Mr Morrison said today's meeting was about getting "status updates" and wouldn't be followed by any announcements.

But he did take the opportunity to applaud the record numbers of people turning out to get their vaccinations, with more than 300,000 people receiving a jab yesterday.

He also issued a reminder to anyone in lockdown that is struggling with their mental health to reach out to services like Lifeline and Beyond Blue, saying the government has "surged" support into those services.

He only needs 'Them' to stick to the plan and pull their heads in.

Interesting, as last time, he said the post meeting press conference was the substitute for releasing minutes to the media/public.

If they have a national cabinet meeting and there is no press conference, I call Shenanigans.

Considering WA Premier came out yesterday or this morning and basically said NSW Premier is the most useless politician in the country and he has see in his lifetime. Imagine the around the grounds hello would be uncomfortable.

It's almost like the states are at war with each other.

Who would have thought this possible two years ago? Really shows NIMBY attitude for all Australians, acted by those who they elected.

That guy is so like Trump in his attitude - straight from the playbook.

More good news. Sotrovimab has been approved by the TGA. Available for distribution next week.

70+ fully vaccinated has reached 55.82%

All states and territories have over 50% of 70+ fully vaccinated with SA at 50.9%

The ACT becomes the first to go past 50% for 50+ fully vaccinated with 51.04%.

WA has just 39.92% fully vaccinated for 50+, but should reach 40% when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

NSW now has 30.05% fully vaccinated for 16+.

TAS has 35.34% fully vaccinated for 16+, so its second dose figure is half way to the 70% milestone.

Another big day for vaccines with 303,304 administered on Thursday. 51% of all Australian adults have had their first jab and 28.9% are fully vaccinated. ACT leads the pack on first shots with 57.5% and NSW is second on 56.3%.
The ACT also had the biggest uplift with 10,813 on Thursday, triple the amount from the previous day.

Most of the projections for when we'll be done are based on the numbers to date, generally in the most recent week (like the 7-day average which is used on covidlive projections), but this delivery rate pleasingly just keeps going up, and the expected target completion dates therefore keep pulling in. New hubs, centers, pop-ups and GPs continue to come online, workplaces are coming, there's a whole lot more supply on the way. That supply being in the more desirable mRNA types with Pfizer & Moderna, the trend will continue for the foreseeable, even if it levels off a little.

I don't have the mind right now to run proper exponential projections, but my gut tells me we'll be somewhere inside the top 15-20 for fully vaccinated rates - even against a total population ratio, and before November. Just by way of example, the USA has stalled at around 51% fully vaccinated (that's roughly 65% of their population above 16). We should be ahead of that in the last week of October.

Cheers,
Matt.

It’s why I predicted 80% fully vaccinated in November a month ago - with escalating vaccination and supply it seemed entirely possible rather than basing it on the rates at that point. However current vaccination is exceeding what I thought - pity it took multiple lockdowns, people dying and businesses stuffed to do it. :(
