The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

90-94 the first 5 year age group to go past 60% fully vaccinated (60.4%).

50-54 the third age group to go past 1 million first doses.

VIC is the latest state to go past 50% (50.43%) of 16+ that have had their first dose.

ACT should reach 70% fully vaccinated for 70+ when today’s numbers are released tomorrow. Currently at 69.96%.

Nationally we are close to some milestones
  • 30% fully vaccinated for 16+ - should reach this in the next few days
  • 75% first dose for 50+ (gives confidence we should go past 70% fully vaccinated for this age group) - should reach 75% in the next few days.
  • 85% first dose for 70+ (gives confidence we should go past 80% fully vaccinated for this age group) - should reach 85% when today’s numbers are released tomorrow

Lol ok bro, change your handle to GrumpyFormerFlyerFamily 😂.

Proud today / I convinced my barista to get AZ! Even gave her the GP who will do it for her :)
Well with Sydney giving the Poland jabs (500,000) in the next two weeks [rate 35,000 per day] and Victoria (state hubs) aiming for 1 million over five weeks [rate under 30,000 per day], and giving GPs and pharmacies an uplift - just very uncertain that Australia's peak rate could reach say 2.5 million per week.

I heard today Vic has available appointments for immediate jab (ie disappointing)........and I'm not hearing that NSW (either through state or GP or pharmacies) is increasing the number of available appointments - so not sure how Australia will reach a better milestone peak rate.

Now we are talking…..

BRING IT ON - NOW!

Not vaccinated? Tough luck.

‘Vaccine passports’ already in development to combine jab records with QR check-ins for more freedoms

Millions of vaccinated Australians will be able to use their mobile phones to gain exemptions to lockdown rules at cafes, restaurants, airports and public events under a national cabinet plan to use digital records to verify vaccine status.

A federal vaccine record will be combined with state check-in systems to expand the use of QR codes at public venues to be sure those who gain entry have been immunised against COVID-19.

With almost six million Australians fully vaccinated, the plans clear the way for the exemptions to begin when states and territories have vaccinated at least 70 per cent of people aged 16 and over.

If they brought in vaccine passports now enabling travel from VIC to interstate I’d probably try and bring forward my second jab. As they are not doing that I presently intend to wait the full 12 weeks between jabs.

wait for Pfizer we will be rate limited

No need to wait its availble already. Heaps of appointments at Qudos for 16-30s in next 2 weeks and Andrews said 55k pfizer unbooked in Vic for next week, go get them.

Looks like more Pfizer has now arrived in Vic as the available bookings slots two days ago were reported as for State Hubs were 26,000 vaccine bookings available for the following week -- 14,000 for Pfizer and 12,000 for AstraZeneca. Whereas in the Vic Presser today they mentioned that has now suddenly jumped to about 50K Pfizer and 30K AZ. It was all part of their daily get vaccinated call, that they do every presser.

Note that these slots are for both first and second doses.

Note that doses for GPs and Pharmacies are from the Commonwealth allocation, and are in addition to the State Hubs.

Delivery capacity at the State Hubs has continued to grow as they are now giving AZ at all State Hubs, plus they are opening up new facilities including drive throughs. More booking slots keep getting added pretty much each day as capacity and supply increase.

Also with Pfizer at State Hubs it is Pfizer the second dose at 6 weeks (to boost numbers who can be vaxxed now), where the Commonwealth controls GPs and so second dose Pfizer there remains at 3 weeks.

The Vic Gov is aiming to administer 1,000,000 vaccination doses between 16th August - 19th September in the the Vic State Hubs (the vaccinations that they control). GPs and Pharmacies is under the administration of the Commonwealth Gov.
See https://premier.vic.gov.au/one-million-reasons-victorians-get-vaccinated…

Till now the the current daily average is 28,046 (yesterday: 27,581) for this time period. 28,571 is needed to achieve the one million doses. So they are close but just a little behind. I think they were expecting those extra Pfizer doses almost a week ago though.

Note that in Vic that Pfizer at present is not normally available for anyone under 39 to book into. Which is different than many other jurisdictions. It also indicates that at present that Pfizer demand exceeds supply until such time as the Commonwealth Gov steps up further supply. So those under 39s in Victoria who want to be vaccinated now are doing so with AZ.

Who'll be the first Premier post 70% vaccination to revoke the Vaccine Passport to assist their next Lockdown being 'more effective'?

It's probably more likely to be other states not allowing in people from a lockdown state even though vaccinated.

If a state in lockdown doesn't begin to ease restrictions at 70% the Feds may pull the Federal funding support for a lockdown in that state. The Feds may be bluffing, but we'll see.

I doubt it - that’s the only stick they have to try and move us to living with the virus :(

Vaccination stakes update.

no surprise I guess after the numbers this week to hear Australia has moved to 69th in the list. Moved in front of both Mexico and Colombia (no reprisals yet) and a nose in front of Serbia.

there are quite big gaps in the 60s so it might take us a bit of time to move up the ranks but things are definitely improving! We are now starting to mix in with Eastern Europe and South America.

The thing is that once vaccination thresholds are met, unless the state that is not in lockdown faces some significant financial penalties for blocking vaccinated travellers coming from states in lockdown, they may well continue to go against the Feds wishes and block vaccinated travellers from travelling from lockdown states even on compassionate grounds.

The Feds control the bulk of the taxes and control who can and can't come into the country. So denying international student arrivals for states that don't stick to the plan is another lever that they potentially have.
