While I’m still feeling reasonably confident I think it’s worth noting as a counterpoint to the theory we will hit 80% in a week that it was just over 70% of first doses that the rate started to slow a fair bit. Remaining hopeful but not a done deal yet.

Sorry you keep banging on about Australia's record.You can't though ignore that deaths have happened elsewhere in the world.We have been lucky.We might not be so fortunate in the future.The other thing you don't mention is that Myocarditis a fter an mRNA vaccine is predominantly in those under 30 and more likely after the second jab.So the numbers in this group are far less than the total mRNA jabs given.
I am not trying to run down the Pfizer vaccine.It is good.But the AZ vaccine is also a good vaccine and very useful.It will be used more in less developed countries as it is cheaper,easier to store and distribute even to remote areas.

Fair enough, though my concern has never been about whether we would get there but when (of course I'm in NSW, other states seem to have a different perspective). Always been confident of hitting 80% if not higher but equally thought we would reach a point where those incremental numbers are harder to achieve.

Having said that I think we are only talking days but with the date aligned to the Monday after we hit 80% a day or two could effectively delay opening by a week. Of course its not beyond the realms that our new Premier will say 78 or 79% is close enough in this case.

Feel sorry for the kids who turn 12 on Oct 11 in NSW.

About 1000 births in Sept Oct usually. Monthly avg 800-850. But Sept/Oct is the busy period - 9 months after….
So there will be approx 30 kids turning 12 tomorrow. Of those probably 10 in NSW.
So these kids will be converted from ineligible to be vaxxed and thus exempted to unvaxxed status.

Why?

A grace period has been given to the 12-15 year olds, for example Im going to theatre on 24th Oct with a friend and her 14 year old, the rules sent out by Capitol Theatre are that all 16+ attendees have to be fully vaccinated, the 14 year old does not, but of course is already fully vaxed having had her 2nd Pfizer on Friday (3 weeks after her first).

The 70 and 80% threholds are for 16+, I dont think they will add 12-15 into the hard rules until 1 Dec, and I imagine you will continue to get 3 months grace from the day you turn 12.

If you had an 11 year old about to turn 12, a smart parent would be phoning up GP and making an appointment on their Birthday, or simply drop into the chemist for a Moderna as no appointments necessary at most pharmacists.

Off the back of the PM claiming yesterday that NSW and Victoria first dose rates were top 10 of OECD if they were countries (which seems true), seeing rubbish articles claiming NSW first dose was higher than everyone except UAE.

Just for comparison purposes - NSW is about 6.2 million with a first jab and this would be 75.6% of the presumed 8.2 million NSW population - I'm sure someone can work out from ourworldindata.org information where NSW actually sits.

Possibly written by people who by and large were pushing the doomsday scenarios and asking vacuous questions at the 11am show.
Now they are losing relevance and clinging to anything that can keep them relevant.

Perhaps they should be asking why are the PZ and SV manufacturers not helping to vaccinate the Third World while at the same time raising prices on their products.

And perhaps we should be a little circumspect too?. We want the 3rd jab but 97% of the Third World has not even had their first?.

The ACT is at 98% of first jabs for all 12+.

Vaccine certificate can now be added to the Service Vic app from the Medicare App. Process is a little clunky but it does work and now your vaccinated status shows on the check in green tick page.

As posted back on 1st October, in NSW when vaccinations reached 81.5 % First Dose and 51.5% Second Dose, cases plateaued and then declined. However generally speaking in NSW with vaccination rates, Sydney is higher than the Regions, whereas in Vic the Regions have a higher vaccination rate than Melbourne. So wen cases dipped in Sydney the percentages in Sydney were higher than the state average. So as most cases are in Greater Melbourne a higher % than the state average was likely to be required to assist in suppressing infections.

The Vic State average now stands at 85.8% first dose and 59.3% second dose.

Over the last week most of the LGA's of Greater Melbourne that were not past both metrics have now done so. Those that have not, will be there within the week.

The exception is the LGA of Melbourne. However the %'s for Melbourne are probably low as

• 1/ the population of Melbourne normally includes a large number of international students, and many of these have returned overseas (ie the total population now resident will be less than the historical total being used).
• 2/ Melbourne is also the LGA with the youngest average age as many younger and adults tend to reside in the apartments. Due to this they were mainly eligible to be vaccinated late.

Looking at the recent case numbers, it suggests that case numbers may now have plateaued and be on the way down in Victoria.

The hotspot LGA's are rapidly catching up to the state average in Vic. However at the 70/70 target the hotspot LGA's will not be at 70% second dose, and that is probably a key factor of why at 70/70 Vic will ease less restrictions that in NSW. In NSW the LGA's with the below average second dose rates tend to be in LGA's with less cases.

Process is a little clunky but it does work

More than a little clunky. On my first go, I chose the myGov option. I got a network error after getting through to the vaccination certificate in the Medicare part. Then I tried the Medicare app option. It said my certificate was already shared with the check in app, but the check in app says there's no certificate. So I shared again, closed all apps, and then it's there.

An interesting article around a really troublesome region for Australia. We have found this too at work, also along with some regional QLD locations.

Once Sydneysiders are allowed to travel into this region en masse there will be a case explosion amongst the unvaccinated unless they isolate….

Shows that no one outside of WA likely t be able to holiday at Ningaloo or Broome anytime soon.

Also shows that although Richmond Tweed which includes anti-vax capital of Byron is low its actually higher than most of Qld inlcuding Gold Coast which directly to its north.
