The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

By the way, QF site is down, or at least unusable for bookings right now as I type and has been for the past hour or so. It's pathetic how often this happens and QF do nothing yet must lost a stack of revenue. Now THAT'S an IT Gripe :D (I want to book a sale fare !)

So it's a policy issue that you can't see seats with your status. not an IT one.

While it may make no sense to go HNL-PVG-SYD(for example) at least it IS a seat I presume in the class you want(J)? Again that's an availability issue and it's common on popular routes with a lot of demand, specially with little status. Perhaps your gripe is less IT related and more belongs in the "Rewarding Long Term Loyalty" thread :)

and for the record, as a high tier UA elite, if I try to look at J or F to europe I often get all kinds of weird routing options like AI via DEL or even strange routings like MEL-BKK-ICN-MUC-FRA-LHR or something. That's how it goes sometimes.
My experience too. I’ve often thought I can get better but I am at least presented with an option.

Well I wanted to buy a GV to buy a Sale fare or two

Can’t seem to be able to buy the Gift Voucher....

Would seem I can find actual fares and get through to the payment page where they add credit card fees now but it sure messes with hurry hurry “Sale ends tonight”

This when trying to search for flights in the last couple of hours

84 F seats out of Australia each day so it'd be significant job to call each person manually. Having said that, I agree it is probably part of 'the first experience'.

My biggest gripe with Qantas is poor security and integration options with other services. Even their attempts to introduce 2FA - while better than nothing - are basic and already obsolete. By 2019 standards a 4-digit PIN and SMS based 2FA is simply not good enough. Facebook is probably the worst login integration they could've picked, but it's obvious their motivation there was to accumulate more data on their members rather than improve the security of QFF.

I think the Qantas app is one of the better airline provided apps, and it seems to have a reasonable development budget behind it. There are some features I'd love to see added, such as the ability to add non-Amadeus itineraries, push notifications for points/SC arriving, TOTP 2FA generator, etc, but overall I haven't experienced many of the issues reported by others.
Ah yep. Was only thinking of the MEL F lounge. Forgot about Sydney having more flights a day with F

GVs were back up now

I ended up booking the next immediate trip 9 Feb to Melbourne for a 50th. Which is before my end of Status date...and which wasn’t part of the current sale. (July - Sept 18 dates which are entirely likely an overseas adventure)

So Held off the rest for the time being. And will review upon any lDSC offer, or before if I feel inclined to go anywhere

Split over two lounges, two minutes per call - not a biggie at all.

My most consistent gripes:
- Multi-city engine is very limited.
- Showing economy [or business] fares when you select business [or First] and at the higher fare rate - actually more than a gripe, it's outrageous.
- Seat selection
- Voucher bookings
- Timeouts and failure to retain previous selections (though this is better of late).

Re the bolded point. I found one the other day that consisted of long haul and short haul promoted as business and points accordingly. The long haul (13 hours) was in Y and the short domestic of an hour in J.

My GV Melbourne return saved $42 as the fares went up $21

Plus of course CC Fees....

The other fares I’d considered went up 40cents lol

Looking at an award last night NRT-LHR.One of the suggestions in J was NRT-HEL-AMS-LHR.Of which the only flight in J was AMS-LHR meaning in practical terms, the last leg being BA,that the whole trip was in Y but you paid J points if you were silly enough to do so.

Well there’s a deal that’s too good to refuse.....

Found this little gem bargain today when trying to upgrade an Award in Y and J on Qatar.

The little ! appeared in both the F and J columns. The one shown is in the F column. What a pleasant flight booking. In F for 3 hours then in Y for 8, made using the F booking column. Not even J offered in the First column.

And the worst thing? You wouldn’t even be able to access Qatar’s dedicated F lounge in Doha.

The consecutive flights have to be accessed via a drop down box which contains the first sector. Took me about 15 goes to realise that.
took me several days. Your lucky

Was looking for 2 x J then any class flight HNL to SYD after cruise, various dates May, found them BUT via LAX or wait for it PVG (Shanghai), why in the hell would anyone go such a long way around when it's a direct 10 hour flight, no thanks Qantas (so my 450k points remain untouched).

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Minorish gripe... the UX of their web page being clearly designed by their marketing designers. They have this attitude that everything needs to be bold and playful like a Fisher Price toy. When you get deep into the bookings screens, this ends up making the flight selections look like you are scrolling through endless over-sized lists that Mr Magoo can read, but still get nothing from. Yet the important icons are tiny little things left over from the days when the Mosaic web browser was the big thing.

But hey. Don't impede the scrolling advertising material that bumps the entire page.

Sadly some of these UX design issues have been translated to the phone/ipad apps, although for the most part they are relatively free of worst excesses of the regular browser pages.
