The Edge - General discussion

Perhaps let me restate what I said. It has been normal in my experience that sign-on points take a while to show up.

A while meaning not instantaneously on any target being met, and not that they were awarded late.

In the T&C it normally will specify a max period for this to occur by. Only once did my points not post by that period and only after that did I call to chase up. Points were then awarded.

Always read the T&C section of any offer.

and let me restate that I got my bonus points on my explorer within 24 hours, and being my first card, so I assumed that was how the system worked, and when I didnt get mine for a few weeks, I called to enquire, and got told storeies ranging from youre not elgiible to yes in 8 weeks you will receive them in 10 separate installments, I was frustrated and confused

so when I got them I was a happy little munchkin

I just got my first ever referal bonus, but im confused whether its the explorer or plat edge bonus

its for 15k, which I think it makes it a edge bonus and not explorer
That bonus is attached to a transaction you have made with paypal for $4822.16, and therefore the bonus is for the credit card that you used.

the thing is, that transaction was made on my explorer card!

Can I please check with brains trust that using the Edge to purchase Woolies gift card via Cashrewards still qualifies for triple points?

Many thanks

Thanks for clarification. Just need to be sure that purchase through Cash Rewards also qualifies.

After having the edge for 7 years I am contemplating getting it rid of it and reenrolling for the explorer card to get the 100k sign on - Am I stupid? I think I may be... :|

Why not have both if your supermarket spend justifies the extra annual fee? Explorer is a good all rounder.

My concern is that I won't get the 110k bonus for signing on to be honest.

Totally get both! :-) You'll probably even get the signon bonus for the explorer. They make a great combo!

I understand what you mean.
Might not get sign on for Explorer and it will come linked to Ascent if you keep the Edge (no bonus but long term better points earn unless Amex revamp MR). Would then need to do the unlink/relink to try to trigger the bonus (as described on Explorer thread).
Reports on the explorer thread suggest Amex are tightening up their systems so might not get Explorer bonus if not had Edge closed for 18 months.
Sounds like best to try with Edge cancelled to try to trigger the bonus points on Explorer. Can then reinstate Edge within 3 months of cancellation.

after having the explorer for ~6 months I applied and received the edge ~4wks ago, got the bonus 15k sign on points a couple of days ago.

didn't have to do anything, nor was I expecting it

That's about right. What I might do is just get the good wife to apply for the explorer for now and evaluate my options in a month or so.

Little OT - I was on phone to Amex about flight redemptions being last day tomorrow on the plat edge and have been given extension to this Friday.

The word on the Explorer thread seem to be indicating that Amex is clamping down on the bonus points for existing card holders ... ie; starting to actually enforce the T&C thats always been there.

The whole thing is turning into a bit of a PITA for me - I'm not interested in the $200 travel credit that now comes with the Edge and was seriously thinking of moving to the Explorer. However, I have a significant balance of MR points and the Edge is now my only card that keeps that warehouse alive. If I get rid of it, I'll be forced to do something with my MR balance - also not interested in the Explorer $400 annual fee if theres no bonus points forthcoming.

Very much echo'd my thoughts there.

Honestly i'm happy with the egde but I don't like seeing other getting big sign-on bonuses when I've been a loyal customer for a few years.

Excellent to here - and that is exactly what I'd expect to happen. :-)
