The Edge - General discussion

Very much echo'd my thoughts there.

Honestly i'm happy with the egde but I don't like seeing other getting big sign-on bonuses when I've been a loyal customer for a few years.

Yes, this is a real problem. I can live with the 200$ travel credit thing I guess. I'll use it somehow. But the really worrying thing is that by keeping this card I will not be in line any time soon for extra sign up bonii and thats a really big problem.

I might have my hand forced here I am thinking. I was almost definitely going to dump the VA Amex later this year. Its a decent card, but too expensive for the bennies it provides when you're past your first year sign on points - As I always like to have an Amex somewhere in the wallet I was going to keep on with the edge, but then they changed it to the $200 travel credit _and_ its seeming less and less likely that other cards direct from Amex will provide bonus points if I keep it.

Arrgg. So, might have to keep the VA Amex, lose the edge, move the points haul to KF (eek! 3 years expiry!) and then wait until I can sign up again for a direct amex and get some bonuses. Honestly, its not ideal.

I wonder if you ask, whether they would do a conversion bonus changing the Velocity Plat to the new explorer card?

I never asked for the bonus I got, and they particularly told me at the time I requested the transfer that I wouldnt get any.

I recently upgraded to plat edge, however on my statement it does say any reward or MR points. Should I be worried? I got my first bill yesterday.

I think the cut over date was the end of march for existing cardholders. Where do you see the $200 credit on the AMEX Travel page?

On the first AMEX travel page, hover over the section where it notes your number of points

Thank you! Looks like they must have also updated it over night, I can see the $200 credit right underneath the points now too.

When a "refer a friend" application has been approved, how long is it usually before the referrer gets the referral points?
The T&C, says these points are awarded on Approval, even though the applicant has to spend the $750 to get their points.

Got my wifes AMEX approved 1 week ago. No points action for me yet.

  • It may take 8 to 10 weeks to be credited bonus points if you are successful.

It says that down the bottom of the T&C's - I haven't received my points for referring someone a few weeks ago so I would hold tight until the 8 weeks pass :D

Though over a decade I have always gained referral points quickly (not that I have had a lot of people that I have referred).

Whereas the bonus points on getting a card has varied. Years ago it was always slow. More recently quick quick. Of late various posters have reported it taking a while.

I actually just checked my points statement on the Amex website and the referral points posted about a week after my friend was approved. This was Velocity Platinum card though so not sure if it's different with edge (T&C's on both cards state same period of 8-10 weeks).
